hi everybody!  i'm new here...Not to Lyme Disease, but to healingwell.

 

I'm 21 and i've had Lyme Disease since I was five, put on a few weeks of antibiotics but still felt awful for years.  It took about 15 years and over 15 doctors to finally diagnose me.

 

I've been on long term antibiotics for about 7 months now.  Last month I also found out I had Babesia and i'm on treatment for that as well.

 

I've been getting better very slowely and I take about 30 pills a day.  I'm on several antibiotics and Meprone for Babesia.  Nausea medicines, adderall and pain killers are the only way I can get through the day.

 

I just started treatment for Babesia and my doctor put me on this earble pills called Artemesia.  The passed few days i've been having serious twitching problems and a pins and needle feeling in my arms and hands.  My twitching is on and off.  Some days it will be really bad and other it wont.  one night I kept waking myself up in the middle of the night because it was so bad.  My arms burn, and when I go outside, as weird as this sound, it gets worse and feels like it's raining out or i'm getting cold water splashed on my hands and arms.  Today my skins started getting really odd bumps all over my arm and is still extremely red.  I never had this problem before when I first started taking antibiotics and even before I started taking them.  I'm not sure if this is normal or not, but I really want to know why i've had this weird feeling.  This twitching and feeling in my arms is driving me insane!  I just need some answers to all of this because i'm so confused. confused

Hi Brittany,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are getting some very good care from your doctor.

I also had Lyme for a very long time untreated and Babesia as well. I experienced the same nerve symptoms you describe when I was on those meds. It will go away with treatment, I do assure you. It is rather disturbing (to say the least!), as it does seem that the meds are bringing out more problems than when you started.

As I understand it, the bacteria use some of the material from your nerve sheaths to build their protective coatings. Your immune system then gets a little confused and starts to attack the nerves as well as the bacteria cloaked in nerve material. Also as the bacteria die, they release toxins that irritate the nerves. My doc told me to take a b12 supplement to help.

These symptoms are a good sign and show that you are on your way to feeling much, much better.

Welcome. I remember the first llmd I went to telling me that I would get much worse before I got better. Two years on antibiotics and I am finally starting to go the other way. My knee started aching, my elbow started aching, one side of my face now burns, one eye is now blurry, etc. all SINCE STARTING antibiotics. BUT my headaches are gone, my knee is now better, my elbow is now better, my fatigue is almost gone, my energy is better, my shin pain is gone, my flank pain is gone, the chills are gone, the anxiety is better (but unfortunately not gone) etc. So things do get better. It is just a crazy crazy ride. Hang in there, think positive and don't give up and don't let your guard down. Make sure the doctor continues treatment until you are well. Best of luck to you.

Hi Brittany,

The feeling like water you are getting is phototoxism from your Doxy. You need to avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight, as this feeling is the skin being damaged. It's a bit like sunburn but a different cause, and more spotty. Factor 50 suncream might help, otherwise hats and long sleeves will prevent any problems. Even hot but cloudy days can be a problem, as the UV can still come through. Horrible in nice weather, but will be worth it in the end :o)
