Can Lyme came back?

Hi all -

Just curious what your thoughts are about if Lyme can come back after treatment. I had Lyme about 5 years ago and was treated with oral antibiotics and a Central line for about 3 months. Anyway, I've read that physical or emotional trauma can revive Lyme. I've had some emotional trauma recently and within a matter of days ive been feeling horrible. My left gland is swollen & tender, the right one is the size of a golf ball. At first I thought it was a typical cold but I now wonder because I have no other cold symptoms. I've had severe headaches and fatigue the last few days, Tylenol is not helping. Im probably over reacting or thinking too much but it's always in the back of my head. Thoughts.

It can come back, particularly if it wasn't treated thoroughly enough initially. Stress really does a number on your immune system.

What you might want to do is get plenty of rest and do everything you can to boost your immune system and detox. There are a lot of viruses out there that could give you similar symptoms. If you don't see any improvement in a couple of weeks, you could then seek the help of a lyme literate doctor.

This is just what I would do in your situation, I'm not a doctor. I am sorry that you aren't feeling well, though. And I understand how it feels to be worried that the disease is back. However, when I thought my Lyme had come back, I had actually gotten bitten again.

yes it can come back. I was sick for 5 years and got well after 2 1/2 years of treatment. I stayed well for over 3 years and considered myself cured. I had no symptoms during that time.

I went through a very traumatic experience and my symptoms soon returned. I ended up going back on oral abx for about 6-8 months.

If you think your symptoms are coming back I would suggest going on treatment again sooner rather than later and get the lyme knocked out. I waited about 6 months before I started on meds again hoping it was just a fluke and would get better on it's own, but the stress I was under did not allow that to happen.

It's good that you are already on top of it and you can get it now before your symptoms return fully so it's a good thing to catch it now.

Sitting here reading this and now I'm scared as all get out. Been doing fair with a PM doctor for Fibro. It's has been slowly getting worse. Over the past weekend I went camping and could not enjoy myself. Sitting here at work feeling like I have the flu.

 

I have been really going thru some major stress in my life for the past few months and now I'm wondering if Lyme is back. After oral antibiotics, and two rounds of IV roc, I really thought and hoped it was all gone, now I am just not sure. Went to the doc yesterday, said I have a bladder infection. Started me on antibiotics. Now I am sitting here with the chills and feeling so bad........

If it is back, it's ok. You can get better again. I relapsed after being so healthy for 3 years, but I got better again and it wasn't nearly as bad as my first go around with this illness. It should never get as bad but if you have a bladder infection it could be why you don't feel well. I have had them before and they give you major chills. See how you feel once the infection is gone and if you need to go back on meds (I know it's an awful thought), but you can start to feel better again.

Thank You!! I guess I just didn't realize that a bladder infection could give you such bad reactions
