My goodness, I never thought in all my life that I would be posting about
Dandelion roots of all things! Just so happened that one of my "new" friends was out in her garden the other day when I stopped by and I thought she was weeding..
Well, in a way she was! She was actually digging up dandelion roots and told me she was going to clean them, cook them and then eat them! I said to myself "okay"... Duh..... She told me that since she was a young girl that her Mom always did this and she continued the tradition..
Curious me started googling away and sure enough found endless amount of articles, recipes, etc. all about dandelions and how healthy they are! After doing my research, I went out and dug up a bagful of dandelions roots and flowers.. Yes, it was a pain to thoroughly clean each one but after drinking the juice I felt so good!!
Caution: Please don't do this if your property was sprayed with any type of pesticides or chemicals.. The dandelions must be organic..
One can make soup, fritters, add them to their salad, saute them with garlic and onion, the recipes are endless....
A portion of the article below states:
"Dandelion is recommended as an adjuvant in all the diseases that involve a glandular disequilibrium. Because of these qualities, the specialists are using it to successfully treat liver diseases.
And its effect? It increases the biliary secretion, regulates the blood circulation and stimulates the appetite when in convalescence periods. Because of its diuretic action, it eliminates toxins efficiently.
This way, it indirectly treats eczemas and other skin diseases, gout, rheumatism, atherosclerosis, varices, etc. It reduces the level of cholesterol. Dandelion is also efficient in treating the hepatic dermatosis, cleaning the blood from impurities and calming rheumatic pains."
