bands

I dont understand what two bands means. Ive had symptoms of lyme for a long time now and the doctor said I was negative. Another doctor looked at the bloodwork and said I was positive for two bands. He says that Ive probably had it for a long time now since I dont remember any bites. I was treated for lyme about four years ago with 10 days of doc. and the symptoms went away. Ive been going to doctors all winter. Headaches, aches and pains, numbness, forgetfulness, fatigue. I feel like Im 80. Some days are fine , others , I want to die. Anyway, does two bands positive mean that I have it? If I do, can I get rid of it with long term meds?

Hi - having positive bands does not necessarily mean you have lymes. the western blot testing is known to be a very erroneous test and can give off a false positive from what my doctors explained. I too have had 2 positive bands and was told that i do not have lymes. in fact, i was also told that they cannot diagnose someone with lymes based solely on the tests since these tests are so unreliable. ive read that other diseases/infections can actually cause the lymes test to be positive. hmm well i hope things work out and u get answers!!!

Giggle! Springsjean, you actually posted that three times, so I hope you don't mind that I deleted the other two identical posts.

As Springsjean said, the testing is really messed up! This is why a lot of Lyme Literate Medical Docs (LLMD's) diagnose clinically (by symptoms). We don't encourage anyone to be seen by an Infectious Disease Doc, because all though there are always exceptions to the rule, they follow the IDSA's recommendations for treatment. They don't believe there is such a critter as chronic Lyme, or that it takes more than just a couple of months of abx - no matter how long the infection has been present. Most knowledgeable docs will keep a patient on abx at least two full months after all symptoms are gone.

It's best for those seeking abx treatment to follow ILADS treatment guidelines if they don't want to have to experience what most ID docs refer to a PLDS - Post Lyme Disease Symptoms and/or relapses after treatment. While no matter who treats you, you most certainly could have residual effects of these infections -depending on how long the infections have been present and un- or under-treated - there should never be the same rate of occurrence or the same severity of the symptoms. Most of our member who started out seeing an ID doc, eventually experienced relapses and had to find a LLMD and start all over - only this time the infections already knew which abx to resist.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not attacking ID docs, they most definitely have their place. But until they understand how to treat tick-borne infections, very few will find healing through them. YOu need to find someone who follows ILADS guidelines (www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/treatment_guidelines_clearing_ilads.html). At least that is what experience has taught me.

Have you asked your Homeopathic doc if you can take something? We sure don't want to go against anything you might have been told.

Maybe you could give him a call and ask? He is already open to treating you for TBI's. I'm being treated holistically and have had very good results, although I wouldn't want to do anything that might upset the balance that I have attained - even though I still have a long way to go.

My doctor says my son has not got Lyme Disease. Please help I don't know what to do. He wants to treat him for mitochondria disease even though there is no proof of it. He has 4 positive bands igG bands 66, 58, 41 and 39. If it is mitochondria the antibiotics used for Lyme can aggravate the mitochondria. I even said to my doctor that if not Lyme maybe a spider bite but something bit him or it would be negative. This is the third time the blood test have come back with the same numbers for Lyme. The tests were done at least 4 moths apart. Please help.

id doc told me the same despite positive test , ask why are mitochodria being affected , the cells are likely infected with a intercellular pathogen ,for me it was bartonella and simple microscope work confirmed this

regular docs wont help .sorry you are here but read all of rowingmoms post , she healed her daughter and herself with herbs and abx ,
they told me wait for ms , its muscular dystrophy when infact is many infections caused by lyme

Then it's more likely that your son has Bartonella, another infection that is often passed along with Lyme - there are several infections that are commonly passed with Lyme disease.

Uneducated doctors mislead me for 40 years - I was diagnosed with all kinds of things until I finally found a doctor that actually understood these infections and how to diagnose them. It's a very common experience with Lyme patients.

If Bartonella is his 'top' infection right now (has the highest bacterial load), then Doxy won't touch it, there are other abx that need to be used. And, Doxy long term for Lyme isn't a good protocol to follow either, as it encourages the Lyme bacteria to go into it's round body form (also known as cyst form), which can resist attempts to kill the bacteria.

I'm glad you have your son in to see a doctor that may know more - but in order to find a doctor that knows how to properly treat these infections, we usually encourage members to seek out a LLMD - a Lyme Literate Medical doctor, as they have at least had some training beyond the 2 paragraphs that they are taught in medical school about Lyme - and nothing about co-infections that come along with it.

I would encourage you to ask the alternative/integrative doctor that you are taking your son to if they are affiliated with ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Disease Society), and if not, or if they don't seem to be able to follow a good treatment protocol, to find a LLMD that has had some ILADS training.
