Anyone care to comment on the pros and cons of IV vs oral antibiotics?  some of the stuff we're reading seems to indicate that you can't erradicate the suckers w/o IV...?  My first appt with LL Dr. is next week.  Any other advice is welcome!  thanks.

That business taken care of, on to your question...

IV versus oral antibiotics -- it really is different for everyone. It depends on how long you have had the disease. Some docs use it first, some use it as a last resort. Many avoid it because of the problems with the PICC line.

Personally, I had been sick so long, if I had been put on the IV drugs they would have had me in hospital immediately. In my case, low and slow was the best method.

Where are you in your treatment?

Suddenly I feel like I've found a life line. Thank you Thank you, that there are real people out there, who can provide guidance to me. I was diagnosed by Western Blot, by PCP 2 yrs. ago, given 1 mo abx and told I was "cured". All have been chasing phantoms ever since- headaches, heart probs., ox level probs., fatigue, you know the list..., never putting anything together. I am seeing Dr. J in Hermitage, PA, closest LL dr. we could find, next week. Currently have a bunch of other specialist, but quickly tiring of the wild goose chases. Thank you for your quick response! I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me soon!

Welcome to the forum. Best of luck to you at the LLMD. I was turned down for IV by insurance company and since I believe I had for quite awhile, my LLMD told me to stop wasting my energy battling the insurance company and direct it all to getting well with orals and supplements. (Good way to look at it I think). I have to say that I think if I had gone to this LLMD in the beginning I would much further along. I wasted a year with infectious disease dr. who kept wanting to test me for syphllis. Ugh. I am however feeling the best I have in 5 years. Keep us posted.

I failed to post the reason for my editing your post!!! ACK! I had to edit out the name of the doctor you were referring to. We don't allow doc's names to be posted unless they are already a very publicly known doc. The reason for this is because those docs that choose to help us by giving us long-term, high dose abx, are all too often brought before the powers that be and a couple have lost their licenses for a period of time, leaving lots of LD patients in the middle of treatment with no doc to help them continue.
