SSI questions

Hi, I'm 23 and living with my parents and about to apply for SSI benefits. I have absolutely no idea how to approach this process and I've heard it can be difficult to get disability for Lyme. Is there anything specific I need to know or any advice anyone can give me about all of this? It's all very intimidating. I also don't know how to "prove" that I can't work...or when to trace it back and say this is the date I became disabled when I've been losing jobs for years because of my inability to perform due to illness. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the SSI website and get the first part started. You are applying for social security disability. You need to have had a job that taxes were paid into the SS system.

Then compile a list of all your doctors names, addresses, phone numbers of every doctor you've ever seen for Lyme related symptoms. Make sure you get info for everyone you've had any lab work, diagnostic tests, and psychiatric help from. It's helpful to be seeing a psychologist. Make a list of ALL your symptoms and put them in medical terminology; brain fog - encephalitis, joint pain - arthritis, fatigue - chronic fatigue, muscle pain - fibromyalgia, etc.

Lyme is not a diagnosis offered in the application process. You have to use the AutoImmune section. This second part of the app process will take several days to finish. It took me 5 days to finish it. about 2 hours at a time was all I could handle. It lets you stop and start.

It will ask you to describe a typical day in your life. You have to write what it's like for you on one of your bad days. Be honest, but don't feel guilty about expressing the really bad stuff.

I was actually accepted the first time, so it is very possible you can be too.

I have been searching this out to no avail. Can someone tell me how much a MR child can receive on disability?? Any help would be much appreciated.

I have never met someone who was approved for lyme alone, but I have met many people who were approved for lyme plus a combination of other conditions caused by the lyme.
