Several people, including the President of ILADS, Dr Robert Bansfield, were testifying to the PA House of Reps in support of Bill272.

They were calling for change in the guidelines preventing doctors from being able to treat Lyme disease with long-term antibiotics and other therapies. They said that too many people are getting chronic Lyme because of late diagnosis and insufficient treatment; the guidelines need to be changed and the insurance companies made to pay for treatment. They call for public education and education for doctors.

Also present were reps from the insurance industry and IDSA. They agree that there should be monies for prevention and education but do not want the state to mandate treatment and in particular do not want long-term antibiotic therapy to be approved.

There was a good public showing and they were all on the ILADS side of the debate.

Overall there was some very good information presented to the committee and it was presented well. Let's hope that the House approves this bill.
