Lyme or Some Other "Super" Bacteria

I woke up the other night in severe pain, enough so to be concerned about my cyst. Went to the "doctor's" and took another pee test. Because it tested positive for an infection, the dr. rode off the pain and said it was simply due to the infection (I'm also still having problems with dehydration). I'm now on 4 meds, one an antibiotic - the 4th round for (I'm pretty sure) the same infection (since June). I'm starting to think I've got lyme in my U-Track or some other nasty little bugger...

Of all the times this has been checked, the bacteria never grew in the culture. Hmmm...

Can lyme be tested through urine?

I firmly believe it gets in every part of your body so no surprise it would show up in urine. Are you being treated by LLMD? because one antibiotic does not usually sound like enough. How about coinfections? There was a time I sworn my ovarian cysts or kidney cysts had to the cause of my pain but no - just lyme. I have woken up in middle of night with excruciating back pain - just lyme. Stabbing pains in knee, chest, eye, elbow, ankle - just lyme. Really is an amazing "unknown" disease.

I just googled "Lyme, urinary tract infection" and had a whole bunch of info come up!! Seems that there are a couple of different Tick-borne infections that can cause repeated UTI's.

Mycoplasma infection is another one that can cause repeated UTI's as well;

I would suggest that you get a hold of your LLMD and ask her/him what you should be doing.

Haven't gotten a hold of an LLMD yet - went to the "doctor's" at school. The thing is I've only had one other UTI (which wasn't even bad). It's not multiple UTI's; I'm pretty sure it's the same one...

That's all I need... lyme and a coinfection - while they build a tolerance to the several 10 day course of antibiotics...

Hang in there and find yourself a LLMD!! You can't exactly let a UTI just run rampant without treatment, so what you are doing is a lot better than doing nothing! Go get yourself some cranberry juice too! It's been proven to help fight off UTI's:

Wouldn't taking several different antibiotics short-term in small doses lead to resistance to those antibiotics?

Well, yes, it could. Although not treating an active UTI could lead to a systemic infection - where the infection goes into the blood stream and infects literally the rest of your body as well.

So....until you get into see a doc who will get you on abx for the TBi's, you must treat these "smaller" infections, or risk great harm to yourself.

Awesome

This summer went migraine ---> chest pain (possible cyst but just inflamed ducts) ---> kidney pain ---> UTI

So, there's a chance that it really went UTI ---> chest/kidney pain?!

I'm not sure what you mean, Whenall.

As you know, without seeing a LLMD, it's hard to tell what all might be going on. Since I have never had any medical training, I can't even begin to know what all you may be dealing with. The kidney pain could be related to your TBI's or to your UTI or something totally different.

I do know however, that you need to be on abx if you have a UTI, or it could go systemic if left untreated - not to mention all of the pain from having an infection in your bladder!! OW!

Well, I was just wondering because when I went to the doctor she asked how the pain moved. I thought it was kidney down, she thought it was the other way around. I already know about the major pain (along with that odd "sweating" which still happens)...

This I do know - that you know what order things happened in a lot better than any doc!! You were the one there, not them! I have had many docs try to convince me of what order symptoms happened as well as what I should be feeling/experiencing - even if I wasn't! Please be careful to not fall into that trap! You know what kind of pain happened where and in what order.

Again, you really, really need to get in to see a LLMD - sounds like you could have a lot going on in your body.

I'm not sure if "better" is the right word but "different" yes... my leg is still all tensed and there's still scattered pain along my right side, but I think most of the pain shifted to the left (so now there's just an overload of pain on one side)...

Please do all that you can to make contact with a LLMD this week? You really need to start treatment, things won't get very much better until you do.

I'm going to need to talk to my parents about that because only 2 are close enough that it won't be a problem to just go, and I've never got through (one was rather odd because who doesn't have someone answering the phone during office hours) to either...

Please do talk things over with your parents! You really need to be seen by someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to Lyme Disease and other TBI's.

Lyme can mimic Interstitial Cystitis, a chronic "autoimmune" disorder that "looks" and "feels" like a bladder infection but doesn't respond to repeated courses of abx for the "infection."

And it is also possible for Lyme to lower your immune system so that any bladder infection that may be there may need more aggressive treatment than what is standard.

And there are strains of Lyme that prefer to live in the bladder, and can cause irritation and symptoms of infection. I was tested via EDS and found to have one of these strains...explained the repeated bouts with UTI's I've had off and on for a long time. I found drinking cranberry juice periodically (at least once a week) helpful for avoiding the UTI symptoms, and also when I do get a UTI, drinking the cranberry juice daily until symptoms go away is helpful.

BTW, dehydration can mimic a UTI or can make one more likely to occur, so make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids.

Please try to go see an LLMD as soon as possible!

Hi, I have chronic UTIs and have for 3years. That's why Im on this board, to see if it's Lyme related.

I've also been diagnosed with IC, mentioned above. If the test is showing negative, are they culturing it? Mine always show negative until they culture it. Sometimes regular cultures still won't show it, but a broth culture will. United Medical Labs in Virginia is one of the only labs that does the broth culture. Many IC patients use them. I've had about 6 types of bacteria show up over 9 months and took abx the entire time.

You can ship the urine in yourself to united. You can google them. In the meantime you could try some herbal abx for a UTI, I do this often! UVA ursi, olive leaf extract or echinacea are all thought to work. I've also read that chronic UTIs are thought to be from biofilms, which I am also treating for.

IC need to keep looking that up, but that's what the gyno thinks.

12+ tests in the past 3 months - all cultured - all negative (I think except for the very first one)

I also had the joy of waking up this morning and "hacking up a lung" for 10 min. Since then, I've had the taste of blood in my mouth (don't know if there was any traces in the phlegm) and been having terrible twitching fits.

*Back to the "doctor's"

**I was told unless the coughing up blood persists for the next couple days don't worry

***Go back to bed (I can't take any cough syrup they have)
^Best advice I think they ever given...
