I've noticed the last few times I came to visit, and now since I moved in yesterday, that at my parents house I get black boogers. I don't have this problem anywhere else. I've also been sneezing a lot more than usual. My concern is that this has to do with mold, as the house may or may not still have mold in it from the series of ridiculously bad floods we've had (7+feet of water). The house definitely still smells kind of moldy, but pretty much everything has been ripped out so I really can't know for sure if there's still mold, without paying a fortune just to find out (and they're demolishing the house probably within the year so fixing the problem is out of the question).

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similiar situation? Could black mold cause black snot? It's obviously not a terrible symptom or anything, it's not really bothering me, I just think it's pretty odd.

...Maybe it's just REALLY dusty and I don't even realize?

do you have a hepa filter vaccuum cleaner and hepa air filters?

Theives oil also comes in a cleaner formula.

I remember when I used to travel to China I would blow my nose and black soot would come out and I would whipe my face and all black would come on the tissue. That was all from just being out in the city.

do you have a dehumidifier?

I have a dehumidifier and one of my vacuums has a helpa filter (different ones for carpet and bare floor)...

I've actually been looking into theives oil but how do you actually use it??

I should be getting my carpet steam cleaner back soon so maybe that will help.

Now this morning my sinuses feel very drippy, and I'm getting that crusty stuff in my eyes. Is it the house or just chance?

are there any kerosene heaters being used?....it causes the inside of your nose to be black and everything in there due to soot....the fumes coming from the heater

Dust from the wind blowing could be causing this as well, Border. Here where I live, the wind has been a blowin'! I have noticed that I am having those same things- icky looking ...uhmmm...boogers... and the runny nose, sneezing & those little crusties in my eyes. Ahhhh, the changing of the seasons! Don't ya just love it?!?! devil

I know that it must be quite concerning to have to move into a house that has had those issues. Be as careful as you can be, using those things that have already been mentioned, but if the house is going to be torn down shortly, then I would suggest that you just do your best to get through the situation with as little issues as possible. You can always use those face masks if your concerns get too overwhelming.

my son has asthma...born with it....when he finally got diagnosed with it....he had to have to two breathing treatments a day....i researched..got rid of anything that would set him off....still no change.....then i got one of those IONIC PRO AIR PURIFIERS....he has not had a breathing treatment since he was two....and hardly even catches a cold anymore.....i turn it on..*its placed right beside his bed near his face*.....i close his door...and while hes gone during the day..its cleaning his air...by the time he goes to sleep at night...hes breathing nothing but clean air.....the purifiers have no filters , so theres no continuing expense with it...u just simply have to wipe the metal prongs off and reinsert.....its truly awesome. One of my lymie girlfriends who has trouble with mold where she works...just bought one. While u sleep, u can arm your body with clean oxygen to rejuvenate and get you ready for the next day...and clean oxygen helps your body fight infection also..makes your body run more effeciently....

I'm not sure about the kerosine...I'll have to ask.

It's hard to get anything fixed these days...it's my parents' house and money and they just don't want to invest in anything because the whole thing is getting torn down-so sad. It's tough because it is my health and that's important but at the same time money is a huge issue...plus my parents are stubborn and refuse to believe that this house is making me sick...although I can't know for certain. I mean I do feel worse since being home but it could be a number of things...my body might just be worn out from the move...

I'm just starting to get a little worried because my breathing problems are back and they'd been gone for a while...

...but I guess if there's nothing I can do about it there's no point in stressing about the negative...

Is there a specific kind of ionic air purifier you would suggest? I'm seeing them from 20 to 400 dollars...are the cheaper ones okay/worth it?
