Cost of Mepron

I have BC/BS insurance and they tell me Mepron will cost me $875 a month.  They tell me it would be $1600 if I had no insurance. Why so expensive? Anyone with BC/BS get it cheaper?

Welcome to our little spot!! I am so sorry that you too must deal with all things Lyme, but you've found a great place to be and we are sure glad you found us!!

If you haven't already, it would be beneficial for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of relevant information, symptom lists and informative links that have been put together by our members here! Most of those who have read through it have said that it was very helpful!! We also have a pretty good search function on this forum to help you narrow down your search for information from past posts. We must be our own health advocates now and the best thing to arm yourself with is knowledge!

I don't really know much about the cost of the abx that can be used, as I am using a natural approach. I'm sure some members will be along before long to help you with your question. Until then, have you tried shopping around for a better price? Just a thought.

If you had seen the recent ilads in toronto, theres one patient who took years of mepron malarone and other combo drugs for babesia but to no success.

Once she was given cryptolepis she got well.

You might consider trying that route instead of the super expensive drug.

My son took mepron for 4 months. Yes, we paid through the nose, but he is off now and doing amazingly well.

You can go to the manufacturer's site and request a discount or free medication request. Your doctor will need to fill it out. It did get us one month of free mepron.

So get this, My doctor had me on Malarone (another antimalarial abx) and my insurance company refused to pay for it anymore. They wanted me to order it by mail in three month lots as they considered it a maintenance drug.

My doctor said he couldn't prescribe it in three month lots as he didn't know if I would need it for three months. Then he got a little smile on his face and said, "Let's see how they like this," and wrote out the script for Mepron.

The insurance co hasn't refused any of my subsequent meds since then!!! Teehee!

You might want to try getting the drug from Canada. THat is what my wife is doing since our insurance refuses to pay for any more AB to treat Lyme. I recommend CanadaDrugs.com. Good to work with. Try PharmacyChecker.com. CanadaDrugs.com will match any price.

I have BCBS and have a script for Mepron that costs me $35 co-pay. (per month) I think you should call your insurance rep, because it is a prescription drug listed in my benefit package.

We manufacture mepron and malarone at my work. Its crazy how much people need this stuff and how expensive it is but yet we throw away so much of it for any minor defect. I mean under a magnifying glass defect! Pharmaceuticals have way too much money!
