Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie in this lyme disease forum and I strongly suspect that I have it. Thanks yazzer and Traveler and carrie48 for sharing your helpful and informative replies.

I have two questions:

First of all if lyme's is treated with antibiotics I need to ask if your immune system becomes suppressed? Are you experiencing any negative side effects to being on antiobiotics? Like getting colds more often....

The second question is regarding finding a good doctor. I came across this website that will provide you with three doctors names in your area. Could you take a look at it and tell me if I should pursue this?

Finally, carrie48, the creepy crawly and bubbles sensation under your skin, did that start when you began antibiotics? Is the sensation better than it was?

Welcome almost medfree - The fact of the matter is, Lyme and it's other tick-borne cohorts are what suppresses the immune system. They do this directly via their own mechanisms and indirectly through things like quorum sensing to recruit other critters like viruses and heavy metals and such. I am an anti-med person myself but, to me, these demon critters must be dealt with using the heavy artillery that abx's provide. That said, I supplement with herbal and naturopathic means as well. On here, you will find those using only abx's, those using only herbals and the like and moany that use a hybrid of the two (like me).

Typically, the 'bad reactions' one gets from the abx's are relative to them WORKING and killing of the creatures. But, there is always the possibility of an allergy - I myself am allergic to the tetracycline family of abx's. The other "negative" that must be addressed is to make sure you take a good probiotic to maintain the good bateria in your system. If not, other complications can ensue. Don't worry about being new - there is a lot to learn and one of the most important things is that to know that you have options and that your specific treatment will most likely turn out to be different than anyone else. Lyme is a very personal disease that manifests differently in diffeent people - so shall the treatment.

I've had the creepy crawly thing since the beginning. It used to be everyday, but now it seems like I have it when I am herxing. I'm having it today. It does feel like bubbles under the skin.

Regarding that website....I looked at it but didn't provide my email address. I know of a lady who's son had lyme and she is a real advocate for lyme. I got the name of my LLMD from her. I can dig through my emails and see if I have her email address and forward it to you if you want. Her name is Karen and she is Dan's Mother.... Maybe someone else knows of her here.

Do you get the bubbly sensations? I get them on my calves and the bottom of my feet.

Oh..Like Yazzer said, everyone chooses to treat differently. I have the personality that I wanted it done yesterday and tend to overdo it I think. I'm on two ABX and I'm using Samento-Cat's Claw and Banderol (which are herbal drops from NutraMedix). These things make me herx badly and I have to take it very slowly. I'm not a doc obviously, but you might want to consider ordering and trying the Samento and Banderol. Start slowly though! I did 30 drops of Samento one day when I first got it, felt horrible, went to bed and slept 13 hours!

It's so hard to tell if I get colds while I'm on all of these abx. I automatically attribute every symptom to a herx or a side effect - I'm always caught off guard when I actually do get a bug that's going around because I forget they even exist!

In general, though, no, I don't get other kinds of sick very often. I think with all the supplements I take it's probably impossible. I take so many vitamins and minerals and herbs...it's hard to believe based on how I feel but it seems like my immune system is pretty strong! One of the few perks of treatment, I suppose :)

As Achievinggrace has said, please do go through the thread at he top of the forum titled "New to Lyme?...Start Here!" -if you haven't yet - as it is packed full of some really great and important info that will help you!

I have purposely waited to see what others posted in this thread before posting myself. I am one who is using strictly non- abx route in treating for these infections. It doesn't matter what way you chose to treat tick-borne infections, you will have some unpleasant effects. Like what WWJD said - "Garbage in is easy -- garbage out is AWFUL!!!!" and that's what has to be done -get the garbage out!

What you need to do is figure out which method of healing will work best for you and your situation. I tried using abx back in 2007 - and it almost killed me, so I had to find alternative methods to treat my TBI's (Tick-borne infections). I happen to believe that one of the main reasons I had such a bad response to the abx is because I have been infected most of my life, so I had every part of my body involved and the die off was soooo over whelming - and I have since discovered that my body has trouble detoxing - that that's actually what made me get so much worse.

The LLMD that I had been seeing never once mentioned detoxing, so I didn't understand the need to do it. Not helpful! Since that time, I have discovered that we all need to detox regularly just from the everyday toxins that we pick up form the air we breathe, the water we drink (and there's water in everything that we drink!), to the foods we eat!

With that being said, don't be afraid to use abx! They can and do heal many people of these infections! It needs to be your choice, but you do have a choice.

Another thing to be aware of is that there are more and more LLMD's that are using a combination of herbs and abx to treat each patient more completely.

No matter what your choice is though, we are here to help answer questions and make you feel like you are not alone in this -because you aren't!! We have a lot of really great people here that just love to help other understand things! smilewinkgrin
