Has anyone been diagnosed with Brucellosis?

Sickman - Did you have any bands on western blot? Again, mine are IGM 31, 39 IND, 41, 58, 66 and IGG 31, 39 IND, 41, 58. From some of your links above, I see all these bands except for 66, which I think may be common in all bacteria. However, I did the "31 epitope test" through Igenex and it was positive. I am pretty sure that's super specific to borellia.

Did you have a positive lyme test? With my brucella infection I had horrible flank/kidney pain. It scared me too and the doctors were clueless (this was before I knew I had brucella, and thought I had Lyme) Brucella loves to attack bladders in men. Wandering how your feeling now? Did you get tested for Brucella yet?

When I was having urinary troubles I found some relief with a probiotic that had d-mannos in it. Found on amazon by Hyperbiotics. I also drank a ton of marshmallow root tea. But it kept coming back here and there. It really only went away after I was on a few different antibiotics for 10 wks. I feel Biaxin/Plaquenil combo really did work. I have read others with IC-like conditions having been cured on this combo. I would get a "flare" in my urinary symptoms when I started new antibiotics like Mino or Doxy but then it calmed down after a week. ALL of my testing at urologist came back negative and they kept telling me I did not have a UTI. I was miserable.

I am hoping to get tested for Brucella this week. My LLNP is horribly slow. I asked 3 weeks ago and they were supposed to put order in to Labcorp. I will let you know when I get results.

Also, my Lyme test was IND. I had bands 31, 39, 41, 58, 66. I did do the 31 epitope test (confirming 31 was not cross-reacting) and it came back positive for Borellia.

I'm new here! I'm coming from a google search on Brucellosis, because I was recently diagnosed. Leigh, I read some of your thread and our stories are very similar (well, and similar to many on here!). I first had sudden onset of symptoms after a work trip to Germany in Sept 2013, had a positive Lyme but Western blot was negative. A long, complicated story (I know most people on here have these) including trips to tropical rainforests for work (where I was bitten by probably 1000 ticks) to muddy the waters on where I could've picked up what, getting pregnant and having a healthy baby (well, except for a protein allergy that does not run in anyone's family), and complete loss of my previously healthy/active lifestyle later, I finally began treatment for Lyme and presumed Babesia (and possible other parasites from the tropics) last fall. I had horrible herxing on and off for the first 7 weeks of the 10 weeks of doxy (with a 17 day course of albendazole in the middle), but was never feeling all better. After the doxy my symptoms went crazy again, especially my spine pain, neuro crap, chest pain, racing heart, air hunger, etc. I sooooo thankful that my LLMD then thought to test me for Brucellosis, having had one other positive in her 25+ year career. I recently became her second! I've been on doxy, rifampin and bactrim for 10 days now and came on here to see if people herx on this treatment as well.
At any rate, I am still in the middle of it and still hope this is herxing and not something else (hard to rely on anything at this point!), but glad to read your story and that the treatment seemed to work for you (I hope!), save the muscle twitches (which started happening almost constantly a few days ago).
Did the treatment work? What were you told about possibility of relapse and is there anything anyone can do to prevent it? Also, did you have chronic sinusitis as part of your symptoms? This is one thing that has been recurrent with me and since I started this Brucellosis treatment, my sinuses have been clogged and painful. Any information you can share about your experience is super helpful!!

LEIGH - I realized I never answered your question about Brucella testing. I was recently tested through Labcorp and it came back Negative. I am not sure how good testing for Brucella is though. My urinary symptoms have been much better lately and not as much kidney area pain. I believe Lyme in general love the bladder, so I cannot be sure what causes my problems. I suspect Bartonella, but I am trialing Houttuynia and have had not herx reactions.

Hi there. After that negative test in Jan 2016, I was tested again this summer and it was positive IGM. I then had an agglutination test and that came back negative. At the time my doctor said we would retest in future. I'm going to ask him on Nov. 1 when I have my call with him. It's all so difficult to figure out!

I started on doxy/bactrim around August but ended up going off after a month or so. I was having insomnia and urinary issues again. Once I go off the abx it all but disappears.

I will update you when I'm retested. Not sure how I will treat it if I have such a hard time with abx. I'm hoping there's a way I could just take meds once a day (morning) as that seems to not cause the sleeping issues as much.
