When I just recently went to see my 2nd llmd (wanted a second opinion ),it cost $450 for the initial consult plus $660 for igenex testing. Meds are covered by insurance with $5 copay for my plan. I will submit the doc and igenex bills to insurance myself. Followup visits aee like $150. My current llmd takes insurance and is therefore less costly.
I did not see much advantage to the new llmd as she pretty much recommended the same treatment strategy as my current one only slight adjustments like increased abx dosage. Plus her office does not allow intra-appointment calls and email like my current one does.
As stated above, Herbals won't be covered. Plus supplements are cheaper online than through the doc. One other thing is that some insurance plans allow you to set aside pretax dollars for health costs. Often called a cafeteria plan, you can withhold up to $5000 a year before taxes. This amount must be used during the year or you lose it. It helps some cuz the money is available at the very beginning of the year and is pretax so you might get, say $5000 of benefit for a loss if only $3500 from your net salary. It covers copays and any thing else not covered by your regular insurance. Plus, Herbals, acupuncture and a lot of other alternative treatment s can be covered. I do this with my plan and save some $$$.
Hope this helps.
