diagnosed with Lyme 4 weeks after acute symptoms

Hi,

 I have been diagnosed w/ Lyme (clinical) - bloodwork still negative - started on Doxycycline (400 mg) yesterday.

 

Here is what I my main question is:

does anyone have a story/knowledge about getting diagnosed so quickly after symptoms develop?  Will recovery be faster

 

I woke up on Nov. 16 and knew something had happened...I felt like I had been ran over by a truck, brain fog, eyes didn't focus, and felt absolutely horrible...

 

To make a long story short...I was in hospital twice because I went down hill so fast (had Ct scans, MRi's of brain and spine, spinal tap, every blood test known) - everything negative.

 

A Lyme specialist   consulted w/ my dr and they determined that it was most likely Lyme.  So from first acute symptoms (Nov. 16) to beginning treatment (Dec. 14) is just

about one month.

 

I have had some symptoms over the past year (hair loss, joints hurting, weird vision lines, tired a few days), but nothing that was that alarming...until Nov. 16 when I couldn't get out of bed.

 

I am wondering if anybody has been put on treatment in a relatively short amount of time and how your prognosis is...and how recovery is going?

The sooner you start treatment, the better. A year and a month are a bit different, depending on what actually happened there -- but many people on this forum have had the disease for 30+ years or something like that and they are improving with treatment. I'm guessing I started treatment 3 months after the tick bite and it's been a challenge but I think the lyme is being squashed slowly but surely.

Welcome to the forum, Optimistic1,

So glad to here that you were diagnosed relatively soon. Response to treatment and recovery are such an individual thing, it's hard to give you a definite answer.

Check out our "New to Lyme ?" thread there is lots of info on how to make your recovery easier.

Take comfort though, the neurological symptoms you are experiencing are reversible.

You'll be feeling much better soon!

This is what happened to me in June - I went downhill fast - thought I caught it "early" as I showed the bullseye rash....further investigation concluded that I have had it for probably 35 years or more (now 52). No biggie - even if that were true, you can and will get better...just be aggressive with the treatment either way IMO.

You must be going to see my LLMD in January. He is very nice... You will like him. Feeling horrible myself and it can be very scary. I had CAT scans, MRIs and a spinal tap done and then they diagnosed me with MS. The LLMD you are going to see is good...
