A few years ago, before I was diagnosed with Meniere's Syndrome and eventually finding that I had systemic infections, my dog (a GSD) came down with an eye infection.
Several anti-biotic ointments failed, and we took him to a veterinary eye specialist. He was officially diagnosed with auto-immune disease.
Fast forward until I was diagnosed with Meniere's and when I discovered that I was dealing with systemic infections. My GSD still had the auto-immune eye problem, but he also started acting like he had dementia, had broken bleeding skin and developed weak back lets (not hip pain, but nerve weakness).
I took him to the vet and the vet said: demential was likely auto-immune, the skin lesions were lupus (auto-immune) and the nerve weakness was myleosomethingorother, also an autoimmune disease. I asked him to give a prescript
ion for anti-fungals, and to his amazement, pooch had improved in all areas. No longer demented, somewhat stronger hind quarters, skin and eyes healed up.
But it would only remain better when treated. Since then, I have discovered the horrors of co-infection. Now he and I are both taking pulse doses of abx and anti-fungals and both of us are doing better. I'm actually designing my own treatments based on what works for him.
He is my 75 lb guinea pig, and I am his
Why both of us? It turns out my HVAC system had a bad mold problem for a few years. My guess is that the extreme mold exposure managed to suppress both of our immune systems, letting other co-infections go wild.
