  Hi,          

 Has anybody ever heard of  late lyme causing very low hemoglobin and or internal bleeding?

My brother is in the hospital with these issues along with throbbing head and blurry vision. 

 He tested very positive for lyme  a long time ago.but found treatment ineffective or he gave up so he has not actively pursued any post treatment.

  One Dr. said MS another said Lyme, they were actually arguing about it.

Tomorrow they are going to look for the source of the bleeding in the stomach area seems like they should check his brain.  They know, (if they listened) he has multiple lesions.

OMG. This sounds like what happened to my husband. He was in the hospital and was shaking and crying and feeling horrible and the only thing they could find was low hemoglobin and discharged him to go see a gastro dr. to find the cause of the bleed. It turns out it was Lyme and Babesia which is a parasite of the red blood cells which will cause all of those symptoms. However, he did not test positive in the hospital for either. Demand that his blood either be sent to Igenex or that a PCR test be done. Do not give in.

No it won't be easy. Tell them its similar to malaria. They will send in infectious disease dr. Mention that he had lyme but concentrate more on babesia as they don't like to hear lyme. Here's the CDC write up. Try and play their way but if all else fails, demand blood sent to Igenex. You won't have the results for a few weeks but if they deny you in the hospital, you will be one step ahead. Just going from my experience. hope you have good luck and a cooperative investigative doctoring staff.

Hello roses, it seems to me that the infection has eaten away so much internal vitamin C that your brother is now showing signs of scurvy.

Make sure he gets some. Anyway you can.

Vitamin C that is, of course.

An excellent choice for a daily intake is a chewable wafer with vitamin C (sodium ascorbate & ascorbic acid). Mixed fruit. 100% Natural.

Is that what scurvey i? stomach bleeding? this is terrible.

I hope you find the right doctor before one of them tries to do some invasive surgery just because they can't figure it out right. You really see what a mess this whole thing creates.

the nightmare is NO TRAINED DOCTORS. How can we stop this with a hand full of really trained eyes??

What if Springsjean had not already been through this? The new school on line class fo all doctors should be this forum.

Seriously, the first 6 months of the certification should be to get on the lyme boards and forums and litstn to thousands of patients.

Well the good news is a hospital Dr. visited once, brother told him he had ms but knew he would not believe in lyme. He did. or he does. He can't be his Dr, Another medical person? also did not hesitate that yes there is lyme,

He got TWO blood transfusions. They ultrasounded and scoped him they have no idea where he is bleeding. They are dumfounded but really do not care,

I do not understand babesiosis, but from what I read it fits but I don't see how it causes low low hemoglobin.

Im tired and confused. He is home. Very blurry vision terrible headaches at times, but he had a gastroentologist at the hospital they don't look at the entire human. My concern is his hemoglobin is going to drop again, he still is 3 points low to be considered normal AFTER two transfusions.

Thanks all, I will do the vitamin C thing and pray for direction on the rest!

Hello Roses, Amazing to see that both symptoms are intimately related to an ascorbic acid deficiency and still the debate is whether it is ms or lyme. Both is also an option, because the toxins from Borrelia & co can cause MS lesions.

Vitamin C is truly a blind spot of modern medicine. cool Even though  the name is also derived from a- (meaning "no") and scorbutus (scurvy), the disease caused by a deficiency of vitamin C. (Wiki)
70 mg of vitamin C per day is only enough not to get scurvy when there is not an infection soaking up your vitamin C.

Info on the relation between iron and vitamin C:
"Ascorbic acid facilitates iron absorption by forming a chelate with ferric iron at acid pH that remains soluble at the alkaline pH of the duodenum."

Roses, glad to hear your brother is home and also that they acknowledged lyme. Did anyone test for babesia? Why did your brother tell him he had MS?

Babesia is very complicated. It is a lyme coinfection but very different. It is a paraside that kills red blood cells which is what causes the low hemoglobin.

"A low hemoglobin count can be associated with many diseases and conditions that cause your body to have too few red blood cells. This can occur if your body produces fewer red blood cells than usual, if your body destroys red blood cells faster than they can be produced or if you experience blood loss."

Have you obtained a copy of his blood work? I would suggest you do that so you have one step up for where to go next. it helped me greatly as it gave my LLMD further indications of what was causing the hemolytic anemia.

Is he seeking treatmet now? Do you see an LLMD? I hope he is feeling better.

He told the dr. ms and lyme because years ago he was told he had both

One Dr. said lyme his titiers were off the chart and had all the symptoms.

One Dr. told him he has MS (the brain shows lesions which I know you know ca,n go with either.
He is very dizzy, eyes are still blurry .

Now comes the craziest part. He says he is seeing things in the dark at night when he is not sleeping. People and animals, he said it comes and goes


Nightmare city He does have to get hempoglobin checked next week. We do not know what is causing blood loss. I too am getting confused, especially now night hallucinations????? Good idea to get records. and a copy of all blood tests thanks. I will do some more googling. I will also google scurvy. thank you for support.Lisa

Ijust found out today that upon discharge he was told it would be good to get his affairs in order.

He says he feels no better than when he went in the hospital

He seems nervous and distraught also.

Springsjeans, do you remember what meds they put your husband on? Is he okay now? I pray he is.

We just have no trained Drs, as mentioned above and a nurse admitted it would be hard for him to find one because his case is so complicated. I imagine suicide can be a real possibility in these types of cases.

Was he on any antibiotics in the hospital? Could the nightmares/hallucinations be from Herxing?

No they could NOT be from herxing or abx, he was not is not on abx.

I think ? I read hallucinations can occur with Babesia. My mind is lymey o I could have the name wrong, but I think its Babesia.

Roses, I am so sorry to hear your brother is not doing well. Please feel free to email me at any time. Where are you located? My husband was depressed, crying, distraught, anxiety ridden, etc. It is common with babesia as well as lyme. Have you researched neuropsychiatric lyme? We got no help at all in the hospital. They just are not familiar with it. My husband is doing really well.

He was on mepron and plaquenil and is now on plaquenil and zithromax along with a ton of supplements as well as an antidepressant. He is back to work and we takes things alot slower but doing great. How old is your brother? Every case of chronic illness is complicated. My husband is facing chronic kidney disease now but nothing we can't get thru with monitoring and proper medical care. Your brother just needs to find the right dr. and let's see if we can do this together.

Who is he treating with now? Hang in there. You have a lot on your plate so take one day at a time.
