Nystatin not Working. Are there alternatives that work quickly?

Tomorrow will be the last day of 4 that I will be taking nystatin. I decided to go with the dose that the doctor suggested (not the pharmacy) after receiving another confusing message from the pharmacy about picking up a prescription that was never even ordered.

It appears that the nystatin worked in my esophagus. I can swallow much better now. I only feel it very slightly. My tongue however, is still pure white. There has been no improvement in my mouth, it actually looks slightly worse. I have been off meds for the 4 days and was supposed to restart on Friday. I would like to get rid of it by tomorrow so I can restart on schedule. The Nystatin doesn't seem to be working.

I saw that hydrogen peroxide, apple cider vinegar and probiotics can all help. Are there any other cures that I can try easily at home? I am already drinking over 20-40 billion probiotics a day in Kefir along with taking billions more in capsules.

Rinse your mouth out with salt water many times a day. If your tongue isn't too sore, actually scrub and scrape it to remove the yeast. (Make sure to keep cleaning your tooth brush with peroxide so you don't keep infecting yourself). After cleaning, suck on a probiotic to replace the good critters.

Take grapefruit seed extract internally (you can also swish a dilute mixture around your mouth but it is really yucky!)

Pau D'Arco is an herb that also helps.

In terms of diet, cranberry is good, citrus is bad. Of course sugar and refined carbs are a no no.

There are also some homeopathic remedies that can help.

Thanks, I'll try that. I have an electric toothbrush, so maybe I'll try that again. I'm not eating any sugar or carbs at all since I noticed the white. I let it go for about a week though before I brought it up with the doctor.

Do I actually suck on the probiotic pill? :)

Yep, just suck on it!

What you are trying to do is to kill the yeast and then repopulate with good organisms.

The good organisms are incapable of killing yeast, but if they are established, the yeast cannot grow.

Don't taste great, but they work!

They do offer flavored acidophilus chewables, However, they are never refrigerated and the contain glucose, so I don't think they are very effective.

Grapefruit see extract is a great alternative, as is coconut oil, or you can try a product called Citrigen. It has all the yeast killing properties in it.

And of course, you always need to be on a good cold source high end probiotic. Nothing under 30 billion units a day

I was told Diflucan was a stronger anti-yeast medication than Nyastatin. But you'd need a doctor to prescribe it. Also, if you google Dr. Burrascano's Lyme guidelines, he has a section on oral thrush, where he recommends rinsing your mouth with a mix of bleach and water (look it up first! You don't want too much bleach!). This kills all the yeast on your tongue, in theory. But then you have to chew a probiotic right after, to replenish the healthy bacteria

Thanks, I will probably have to ask about the diflucan soon. I didn't want to take anything very strong. I would have preferred to treat this all naturally, but it hasn't been working so far and I don't want to delay taking the antibiotics too long.

The bleach thing scares me though lol. Even if I look it up, I'd still be afraid to try that.

Yeah, I thought the bleach was a bit too much, too.

If you want something stronger than the salt water I suggested, you can dilute Grapefruitseed extract and swish it around. Very bitter, but at least it doesn't taste like chlorine!
