Film on Lyme disease to be shown at event

GLENS FALLS -- Democratic congressional candidate Joel Tyner announced he will host a showing of the documentary film "Under Our Skin," at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at Rock Hill Bakehouse Cafe on Exchange Street in Glens Falls.

The documentary is about Lyme disease and similar tick-borne diseases.

Tyner said in a press release he has called for a federal law to require health insurance companies to cover Lyme disease treatment.

Admission is free, but contributions will be accepted to benefit Tyner's congressional campaign.

Tyner is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson, R-Kinderhook, in November.

Gibson and Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-Saugherties, are among cosponsors of legislation that would establish - and provide $250,000 in annual funding for - a national advisory committee on Lyme disease and similar tick-borne disease.......  Maybe this is the Man we should all be contacting as it looks as if he wants to help Lymes Patients ......

Hmm. We had a politician here in Canada who went out of his way to contact the people with Lyme disease in the city I used to live in. We all wrote him letters detaling our experiences, and one of the other people met with him personally.

It's over a year later. He is running for office, has been in the news a ton, and never ONCE mentioned Lyme disease.

Hopefully this guy does better!

I wasn't able to find a lot of info but from what I read, this man has a background as a community activitist prior to politics and actually had a hard time breaking into politics. It also sounds like the county of Dutchess, for which he holds office, has a high rate of Lyme Disease.

Apparently Dutchess County has a "Tick Taskforce" that is trying to spread the word to residents about the dangers of ticks. "The Tick Task force was established in 2002 with the mission to use professionals and persons knowledgeable with respects to tick-borne diseases to coordinate an effort to reduce the population of ticks that communicate various diseases."

So, there may be some sincerity to his motives?

I sent that letter to the Governor of the state I live in ...LOL LOL LOL along with my long story about Lymes patients and what we have to go thru to get treated the proper way and how the IDSA has guidlines that are completly wrong .. LOL LOL LOL I shall see if I get any kind of response :)
