My cousin who lives around Oregon Coast called me tonight to give me an update on my grandma's surgery. She had noticed I posted something about Lyme and wanted to ask me questions. Her mother and I often share our health experiences and I was sure that my problems were just an inherited thing that we both were stuck with. Well, my cousin said that her mother had been biten many times after her mushroom hunting trips, and had actually had strange rashes. Years ago they had tried to investigate it, but it just wasn't something that doctors were recognizing at the time. We have similar neurological problems. Last time I was there, I asked her about muscles twitching all over my body, and she said she has it happen too but takes B vitamins to control it. She was the first person who had even understood what I was talking about.

So now I am wondering about it. Could the way we react to this bacteria be alike? Or is it just an inherited thing we have? Does anyone have any experience with relatives having Lyme and sharing symptoms?

I definitely think it's possible for people to have the same symptoms, but I'm not sure if it's genetic or if it's due to the Lyme bacteria causing a specific and very wide range of symptoms.

It may also be that different strains of Bb and co-infections are geographically located in certain areas and cause similar sets of symptoms in those they infect.

People in my immediate family have been bitten by ticks yet have never developed any symptoms of Lyme or co-infections. Sometimes I wonder how they can be bitten so frequently and not develop Lyme in the same area that I was bitten and reinfected at least once.

I often wonder though what causes some people to be easily treated and put into remission or claim they are "cured" in a reasonably short amount of time while others struggle tremendously long term. It doesn't seem to be based on lifestyle so perhaps there is a genetic component to that as well.

Did you talk to your aunt about possibly meeting with a LLMD? It sounds like she has a lot of risk factors between her symptoms and known tick bites and rashes.
