MS and Lyme Disease (and other ailments) - Are they all really just LD?

I agree with you, Yazzer. It's a cryin' shame too, although not surprising. I think that this is only the tip of the ice berg too. Once Lyme becomes accepted as a real thing ( I mean truly accepted in the medical community), I think that the studies that will follow will shock and surprise all of us as to just how many conditions are actually an infection with one of these infections.

Although they are currently known as tick-borne infections right now, there is a movement to finally quit labeling them so falsely as tick-borne because the truth be told, they are spread by sooo many other insects as well. The future of these infections will surely be interesting to follow!!

Thank you Yazzer for continuing on with this!! I know I will be involved for the rest of my life most likely - in one form or another. If I ever heal enough I even want to one day start a support group right here in my own community.

I do too..It's a crying shame that Lyme is so dismissed. I believe it 100%!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Lyme was the cause of MS, among other illnesses.

It wasn't too long ago that they finally realized that several species of bacteria cause ulcers, now it's common knowledge.

Research is also starting to point out bacteria play a role in heart disease, as well.

I've heard that rheumatoid arthritis may well be another bacteria-caused illness, treatable by long term ABX.

Why is the medical community so closed minded?

You guys are so spot on with all of this. I read this a few days ago yazzer. It's mind blowing and I'm sorry for those of misdiagnosed for so long on this thread and reading.

I was told 2 months ago, I had Sjogrens. It was a total joke diagnosis. The rheumy said it all with a smile on his face that was so all knowing. Like he was so good at his job. He's shaking his head with a smile saying Sjogrens with joint inflammation.

Only from a 2009 "illness" made from the medical community did I now know, question everything.

I was like, why do I feel sick, why my thought process, confusion and on? These symptoms came on in 8 weeks and what about these a year before and I listed the strength of them and what they were. And you say my body just decided to fight itself? Come on...............

He reached far to make it anxiety, psychosomatic, thyroid, early meno pause for the toxic sweats and shakes, and fibro, he would have given me six meds to make me more sick not killing any bugs. He laughed when I said I felt body vibrations sometimes and I said I grind from the movement. (I've since read that this bruxism is caused many times from bugs, just like what if feels like. )He laughed again, and said nerves. What a.........

You guys are right on the money with all this.

I just want to say that my heart goes out to people who have been misdiagnosed. How horrible! How bloody horrible! It's unimaginable, really. Before this, I naively assumed that all doctors just dig and dig until they can find the cause of their patients' ailments - like House or something. Well, House is a fictitious character and, in reality, doctors want something easy to diagnose then fix, and, like their 19th century counterparts, assume women are fragile creatures who suffer from 'nervous' disorders.

I've had similar experiences, but not to any extreme. According to my doctor my daily excruciating headaches were from stress, my confusion from depression, my insomnia from depression, muscle aches from aging, fatigue from depression or perhaps a low grade virus infection.... and on and on. The bullseye rash was from some insect or other.... and so on and so on and so on.

Western Society has lost itself as far as medical care is concerned. It has advanced well over the years with technology and good old fashioned hard work to gain much advancement in the fields of medicine and treatment. But some where along the way - perhaps not long after polio was cured in the 40s and 50s, things began to go awry. That good old fashioned hard work ethic succumbed to greed and power and in-bred narcissism amongst the various medical and dental communities. Plus, we just totally got off-track with well-known curing methods of the East and the ancients and that happened probably back during the early days of the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century.

This is ludicrous and needs to change. All those years that I was told I had anxiety and depression and they fed me big pharma meds (anti-depressants that NEVER worked because I had LYME, dam m it). Well, I gave my old psych doc (who happens to live down the street from me) a copy of Bransfield's work on neuro Lyme. Now, when I talk to him he is unusually INTERESTED. He's made comments like "You know, there are new studies suggesting a link between depression and chronic inflammation.." DOUBLE-DUH! I have said to him that he's getting closer but did he ever think about what might be CAUSING that INFLAMMATION? LOL! LYME! Well, I recently found out why he seems to be so interested now...a couple of reasons (1) he has had several patients he has treated for anxiety/depression that had Lyme and got CURED by abx! LO - so, he's like, "Wow" TRIPLE-DUH! and (2), about 4 years ago, he got bit by a tick and had the bullseye rash. He did what his dumb-arse colleagues at IDSA say and treated himself with 2 weeks of doxy and was "cured". Well, it seems of late the clinical psch commnity around here are wondering why my old doc is missing so many appts with his patients of late and with his professional groups. Evidently, he has "gotten Lyme again". Well, as WE all know, he never got rid of it in the first place! Hence, this is why he has become so interested in my story about Lyme!

So, some of this is cover up, no doubt, but a lot of it - the typical neighborhood doctors, are just plain IGNORANT of the Lyme issue because they blindly follow the big boys of the medical, pharma and dental authorities. I am turning my neighbor into an LLPD (Lyme Literate Psychiatric Doctor and he is now a patient too).

Crazy stuff. My MRI could easily be mistaken for MS...I am just glad I found out about the Lyme first - even though it took 35+ years to find THAT! Be well all!

I think it's a combination of many factors...  Because there is no "set" treatment for a cure doctors (in my opinion) do not know how to treat lyme so it's easier for the medical community to give a different diagnosis whether it be MS, fibro, CFS, depression, and the list goes on...   

Then of course money plays a huge role (hey, pharma is big business!)... 

If there was a set treatment plan for curing lyme then I think doctors would be more open-minded (I could be wrong).   But right now it's basically trial and error..  For some abx work, for others natural medicine works..  All I know is that a person with lyme must (or should) become their own advocate and do their own research..

All of health and medicine seems to have gotten so much more complicated, just in the short time I've been alive alone! I think it's a good thing that a lot more research is being done in general these days - I mean I feel like a lot of these diseases have been around for a while and at least they're finally being recognized.

The perspective I tend to focus on is the fact that it makes doctors and researchers uncomfortable (I assume) to not know what the truth is. We all want certainty, and nobody has that, so there is A LOT of tension left over.

My heart goes out to all of you for all the emotional pain you've had to go through dealing with the medical community. My only hope is that with so many people out there with these crazy stories of years of being undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, untreated, and mistreated, at some point - hopefully soon! - there will be a sort of tipping point, and things will change for the better.
