Newly diagnosed. Need advise.

Hello All. I need some advise. My IGG Western blot came back Igenex positive -- after two negative Elisas. I sought out a LLMD who ordered the Western Blot. I am grateful to him ot finally have an answer.

He put me on 3 ABX (Doxy, Biaxin, and Ceftin), which I have yet to start. I've been feeling not well for two years, then in the fall I was so sick I couldn't work or get out of bed etc. I'm better now, but still not healthy and continue to experience some of the classic signs: burning pain/tingles, shortness of breath, hearth palps, shooting pains etc. BUT, it's not miserable because it's not constant. Or maybe I am just getting used to it.

Here is the question, does 3 different ABX seem like a lot? Do LLMDs ever start you more slowly? Given that I'm not feeling miserable, I wonder if it makes more sense for me to start with just Doxy, for example, and see how I do.  I am back at work now and really don't want to get sick again -- whether from Lyme or from too many drugs at once....

we havent tested for coinfections yet. i'm willing to take what i need to  to get better but also would prefer to start slow so as not to get so sick. i need to work. i learned about detoxing on my own. i'm also bummed he didnt tell me. in any event, am wondering if maybe he just isnt the right llmd for me. i feel so confused.....  :(

 

Don't be afraid to call around if you have hesitations. I had a ton of hesitations about seeing a LLMD in the beginning and for months I questioned if my LLMD knew what to do and was doing the right thing. I am just starting to be more trustful and I still definitely have times where I don't understand why my LLMD chooses a particular approach. I ask directly! LOL. It seems really forward, but I like to have things explained and my LLMD doesn't seem to mind doing that.

Before choosing a LLMD, I called several in the area and spoke to people who went to them (by talking online to people that are a part of my local Lyme association). I was able to determine the different treatment approaches that each doctor took.

I narrowed it down to two. One was very experienced and had tons of patients. He used an aggressive treatment protocol which many times included IV's. Another was less well-known but combined antibiotics and alternatives and was more flexible with protocols.

Things are not going perfectly and I have questions and doubts all the time with my doctor and would with any doctor. Particularly because in my case, Lyme is not something that's showing measurable progress in short lengths of time which is frustrating to me. I chose the less treatment-aggressive doctor and was still started on two meds in fairly strong doses. I'm now on 3 and about to add a 4th.

My advice would be to first try to talk to your current LLMD and see if they can provide an explanation as to why they are starting these medications and three at once. If you still feel really uncomfortable with the protocol based on what you have researched would be best for yourself, then I would start to call other LLMD's in the area.
