Hi - I just got my Lyme results back. After 8 months of severe symptoms and a ton of negative tests (from Rheumatologists, Neurologists, etc.) I would really appreciate some feedback on the Igenex results. I am seeing an Infectious Disease doc shortly and I need to convince him that he needs to treat me, despite the fact that the results are from a US lab (I am Canadian - my previous Canadian Lyme disease testing came out negative).

Hey, so if you did Igenex test they ysyally have a statement at the top of the test saying something like "Igenex: Positive (or negative), CDC: Positive (or negative)". Anyway, I don't know the exact rules but your igM is for sure Igenex/LLMD positive, and probably CDC positive too. Your IgG- I am assuming the bands where you pot nothing are negative? Anyway, it is negative, but you only need one to be positive.

You also have a postive PCR test! Holy crow! They cannot argue with that one- that means they found bits of actual spirochetes in you blood, I am pretty sure.

So basically, I think you have a reasonable chance of arguing with your doctor. The problem will be that it isn't a Canadian test- they might dismiss it out of hand. But if you can get them to look at it it is pretty definitive.

What province are you in? I am in AB and my GP attempted to refer me to the "Lyme expert" for Alberta...her phoned her up and gave her an earful and said he had never seen ANY evidence of Lyme in all his work in BC and AB and there is no way I could have it and refused to see me....so if you are seeing THAT guy, unfortunately I wouldn't hold out hope. But maybe different provinces are better?

We cannot diagnose you.

But your IgM western blot is CDC positive.  And your PCR is positive - that's rare, so you're lucky to get this to show positive.

Suggest contacting http://canlyme.com/ or http://ilads.org/ for help finding a doctor.

Canadian doctors DO often dismiss Igenex tests. The established medical community can be unbelievably ignorant, seem to believe there is some sort of lyme conspiracy we're staging. However, the Canadian tests are not accurate enough, but they don't seem to know that. Infectious disease doctors, from what I hear, are the worst of the lot! Ignorance is bliss - for them.

I wish you luck with your doctor and hope you have found or will find a good LLMD. I found a good LLND (naturopath) who consults with Dr. M. I'm in B.C.

Hi sabrejohnson,

My advice also is to contact canlyme... they have ontario reps. who can assist you with a list of LLMDs, the catch is they are all in the US.  There are no doctors in Canada treating Lyme.  I went last month to a LLMD in Plattsburgh, NY... she was great.  Just got my results back to... they are not nearly as positive as yours, but as far as I can see with research any + or IND results next to any of the Lyme specific bands with the double star (**), are clinically significant and should be treated as a positive test.  Here are my results:
