Wanted to share to hopefully help others in the future. I have NEVER felt worse in my entire life.
It started last Tuesday (15th) when I felt a little sore...kind of like a flu-like sore. I dismissed it thinking I was simply sore from the tree trimming from the previous Saturday.
I also had a rash on my left buttocks. Now, I have had something like this recently, but not on Bactrim, so I kind of brushed it off. Didn't itch, not really that bothersome considering. Aches went to a low-grade fever by Thursday evening. I seriously did not think the Bactrim was to blame. In fact, I said to myself, "so THIS is what my LLMD was talking about when you herx on Bactrim." LOL. By Saturday I thought I was going to have to go to the ER. It was the worst I had ever felt in my life. Fever was spiking to 102-103, chills, aches galore and to top it all off insomnia! AWFUL!!!
Sunday night we almost went to the ER as I was 'feeling very strange.' Almost like I was having an out of body experience. For a while there it as if my feet weren't attached to my body. Indescribable. Then the fever broke. Had it stayed high, I wouldn't gone to the ER.
Monday morning I took my Bactrim dose and called my LLMD. He said immediately that it was a sulfa allergy. The rash I had now was all around my groin area as well as on my right hand and neck.
By Tuesday morning after my first multi-hour sleep in 3 days I was already feeling a little better. It's Friday now around 4:30 PM and while I'm not back to where I was, I'm in a much better place. I still feel 'off' though. The insomia was a killer!! That's the worst part of it IMHO. You literally can't sleep it off. You have to suffer 24 hours a day.
It'll be interesting to see if this has done anything to my Lyme symptoms which are all by my left ear. For a while there I thought maybe I was getting the Daily Double...lol......allergic reaction and killing off some of the Lyme (herx).
Anyone know how long it may take to get over this? I have to think longer than your average cold since it's an allergic reaction. As far as I know this is the only thing I'm allergic to.
