Are LD & vertigo related? My physician is an hour drive away and I don't want to make the trip alone with this vertigo

Went to the ENT to be sure I had no sinus or ear infections. He told me he thought it was viral and gave me prednisone to help inflammation - I have trouble getting out of bed with the spinning.

I am currently only on Plaquenil, and no antibiotics, I stopped doxi about a month ago cause I was feeling good.

Any ideas? Maybe even natural? FYI I have had LD for 29 years, diagnosed 4 years ago, an antibiotics on and off ever since. I just want to wake up feeling all the time!

Hi lg,

With a long held infection, you really need a long-term steady treatment program. One designed to draw the bacteria out of the places it has been hiding. Were you being treated by a Lyme Literate Doctor?

Anyway, as for driving with vertigo. Don't! I have had to ground myself several times during my treatment process. It's really awful to go on even a short trip, let alone a long distance. Pretty sure it isn't safe for other drivers, either.

Is there someone who could drive you? Someone who said, "If there is anything I can do..." Can you hire someone -- a young person home from college, maybe?

Wow, 29 years!  I, too, have a lot of vertigo, along with a lot of nausea. Just slightly rocking in a rocking chair can cause me to get dizzy & nauseous. I also recommend not driving alone. Thankfully my hubby drives to our appts(3hrs away) to see our Lyme dr. Hopefully there is someone who could take you..??  Or maybe take a non-drowsy Dramamine b4 you go?/ It has worked for me in the past.

How about asking a family member to go with you to the doctors? I had my sister or my mom drive me to my LLMD 5 hours away because i felt like i would drive off the road with dizziness and brain fog. It also helps for them to be there because i can't remember everything and they can chime in with your symptoms and medicines you've tried etc.

I felt like i was a burden to my family but that is what they are there for. If your family driving you is not an option, ask a neighbor or friend. People will help if they know what you need.

I hope you get help soon-hang in there!

And after 3 years of treating, i still have vertigo but not as serious...so it will get better with time!

Yeh vertigo was one of the first things that happened to me the first time I took antibiotics and its been around ever since on and off. Its a horrible feeling but the more I improve the better it gets and not only that the more you have it the more you just learn to deal with it and get used to it.

Yup, the two are definitely related, and if you don't have anything going on ENT-wise, I'd guess it's lyme. I would seriously caution you about the prednisone though - as a steroid it suppresses the immune system and can help the infection to grow. It's not an uncommon story - "I took prednisone and then I got worse!"

Of course if the risk outweighs the benefit, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! I don't really see how prednisone would help with vertigo (I'm not a doctor though) - I'd just think about that. Unfortunately a lot of doctors will prescribe counterproductive treatment to patients with lyme because they don't know anything about it!

Also, you could request a phone consultation with your doctor, or use a car service if you have no one to drive you. Otherwise, rest up!!
