Saw a new dr yesterday about treatment, your thoughts

I was seeing a dr who thought I had Lyme alone and had me on clarithromycin and hydroxychloroquine. I wasn't getting better so I saw a new dr yesterday who believes I have bartonella and gave me a script ir biaxin, ceftin and Valium for anxiety.

Just wondering if anyone has any exp with these meds and if it's a good way to go.

I saw my 1st dr today to get his thoughts and he laughed when I told him that the other dr thinks I have Bart.

What did YOU think? Do you have a lot of symptoms of Bartonella? Since you weren't getting better, what was the first doctor willing to do for you?

I think it will be hard to see more than one doctor for specific Lyme treatment. It is unlikely that they will agree on treatment approaches and the different meds and combos will eventually interact.

I would go with your gut and see the one which you think is going to be able to help you more. I think it's pretty unusual to have Lyme alone lately. On the other hand, I think it's unusual to use biaxin and ceftin as a bartonella protocol. I think biaxin only has minor effects on bartonella. I'm on Rifampin for Bart. Another common one that some LLMD's use is Levaquin, but that has some pretty serious side effects for tendon rupture.

Sorry I had to edit your post - language.

Most often I hear of rifamptin or azithromycin for bartonella, that and certain herbs. You might want to go through old posts and see what others have done treatment-wise to see if anyone's been on your combination. I took ceftin for a while, for lyme though, and for what it's worth I had no problems with it. What exactly was the first doctor's logic for laughing at your having bartonella? I'm kind of in a similar situation right now - my doctor kind of bombed at treating me and has given me a lot of attitude about 1 repeatedly reminding her that she herself told me I most likely have it, and 2 that after a year of her not helping me, I managed to help myself with herbs! It's sad but I think sometimes these doctors get so wrapped up in winning or losing the battle against lyme that they take this stuff so personally - good for you though for seeking another opinion! I'm not sure exactly. He told me two months ago that he believes I don't have and co-infections. It was visible he was mad that I went to another dr. I didn't really care to say much after that. I was mad cause he didn't even check me out for the reason I went in today.

Later on that night I went to urgent care and they recommended I get a holter monitor put on to see what's going on with my heart if anything shows.

Are you sure this doctor was actually a LLMD, following ILADS guidelines? Sometimes doctors say they're "experts" in lyme but really they follow outdated IDSA guidelines.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that kind of mistreatment - sounds to me like he's just taking out his frustration on you that he couldn't help you get better. I'd stick with the new doctor - the number one priority is thinking outside the box to get you feeling better!

This post reminds me of when my husband was first sick with lyme, &  he was seeing his 10th or 11th dr to see what was wrong, & my husband told the dr,  "You know, I've been doing a lot of research-books, computer--& I think I think I may have Bartonella".  The darn dr. laughed in his face, & said "I assure you, you do NOT have Bartonella." A few yrs later, when my hubby finally got diagnosed, lo & behold, he had a ton of co-infections, Bartonella being one of them. Trust your body & instincts wink
