I'm looking at old western blot from 2007 when all my lyme tests came back negative, since then 1 year ago almost everything positive and I'm being treated.

But I'm curious if anyone that was diagnosed with lyme and/or has been treated with only band 58 reactive all other bands including IGM's being non-reactive. I know the it can all come back negative but I just don't think I've had lyme the whole time and I'm still trying to figure it out but still don't know.

I don't know why I would have a negative test and then a year ago have the rash and the total positive test, unless I was reinfected and it added more germ load to me.

The only thing I can find on this band is that it's a heat shock protein to BB or something and not specific to lyme, but I don't understand why it would come back any protein related to lyme if it's not lyme-related. I'm getting sick of this whole thing, I want answers, sick of this nonsense testing that has ended all of this in this situation.

There is better testing and treatment for dogs than us for this, this has to change, this has taken way too many years from my life.

Any info on this would be appreciated . thank you

Lyme testing is very very confusing and frustrating. The test of course only indicates if your body has built up an antibody to something. SO if your body has not been able to build up the immunity to that strain, it will not show. Thus, if the bacteria/disease lowers your immune system, you will not build up an immunity. Confusing I know. Band 58 is not lyme specific but neither is band 41 and it is the most common one to show up first with lyme. Perhaps you were bitten again or it took a while for your body to react to the bacteria.

I test positive igg for only one band which was 58 .... Drs says it's not enough to be considered positive for Lyme I I know that's what has me sick off and on... They trying to tell me it's fibro but I'm finally going to see an llmd next week

Band 58 is thought to be the first to show up as positive. It's thought to be a heat shock protein for BB. Borrellia or Bb is Lyme disease

Were all of you tested by Igenex? Were all of you on 3-6 weeks of a cyst busting abx or herb to help your bodies immune system recognize that there was a bacteria hiding from it and allow it to start creating the antibodies needed to fight it and more importantly test positive? Lyme does an incredible job of hiding from our immune system. Often without the aide of abx or herbs the tests will be negative.

Lyme and co infections leave the blood stream and go to a cellular level. Standard labs don't test properly. That's why Igenex testing is so important.

Agreeing with Jrpsf, but would like to add:

Band 58 is likely Borrelia Afzelii - a European strain of Lyme disease, and a heat shock protein.

You're best bet is getting in to see a LLMD that will understand that there are more than one strain of Lyme disease!!

I tested positive for band 58 as well. I have spent a lot of time in Europe but know these strains can be caught in the US as well. Is there any sort of idea on what the differences are in symptom manifestations between the various strains? or do symptoms run the gamut like with borrelia burgdorferi?

I imagine there is a broad and varied clinical presentation of symptoms with each strain, but just curious if there are any consistent general differences.

This is the only place I have found so far that states what I have found:
"Although European Lyme disease is known to cause more neurological symptoms and less arthritis compared with North American Lyme disease, there have been few studies on the range of symptoms.

A 2006 European paper concluded:
“Patients with B. garinii isolated from their CSF have a distinct clinical presentation, compared with patients with B. afzelii. B. garinii causes what, in Europe, is appreciated as typical early Lyme neuroborreliosis (Bannwarth’s syndrome), whereas the clinical features associated with B. afzelii are much less specific and more difficult to diagnose.”

I got bands 41 IGM and 41 and 58+ IGG. I was told I definitely don't have lyme by 3 ID docs. Finally at an LLMD who is redoing panel at Igenex and thinks my clinical presentation says otherwise. Very confusing.

My first symptom of lyme disease was what I now know as "Bannwarth's syndrome"
It was symptoms of a pinched nerve - starting in neck, left shoulder blade, left arm and hand. - pain/numbness/weakness.
Unfortunately when I did Dr. Google...the early lyme disease symptoms that came up didn't include that - and I didn't have the 'flu-like symptoms', or fatigue, or bulls eye rash.

In the first couple of months I had a chiropractor, a GP, and a physiotherapist give me their different opinions of what it was.

I haven't been to Europe...though...lol

Just curious, Mysteriousme - do you have the symptoms of Bannwarth's syndrome?

Not exactly as specific that. My symptoms started as peripheral neuropathy. Sensitive skin, tingling in different places throughout, hot/cold sensations and vibrating in feet and hands. Also got some numbness at times in my legs. Tested positive for small fiber neuropathy suggesting something is attacking my nerves.

Sounds like Lyme and Bartonella - they both attack the nerves - or more specifically, the protective sheath around the nerve - they myelin sheath.

I have tested active for IgG 41 and 58 recently. What is your current diagnosis out of curiosity? I am not sure what is wrong with me and was hoping you could shed some insight.

Mysteriousme: I have pretty much the same thing. Mine did start with a god awful neck pain though. It didn't radiate down the arm. I initially thought I had small fiber neuropathy. Have not been tested for it. I have cold hands/feet, skin all over feels different - slightly numb, buzzing vibrations in trunk and feet, limbs fall asleep easily. I have bands 31, 39IND, 41, 58 and 66.

I have never been to Europe, but had traveled to Hawaii the month before getting sick.

If you've found anything to help with any of those symptoms let me know! lol. I am treating with abx and herbs. Added in some bart herbs just in case.

And this also concerns me because my middle daughter has bands 41, 58 IGG.

Heat shock is just a rise in the temperature like when your body induces a fever to kill off the flu. Some organisms can't survive these changes and create proteins to survive this. The antigens your body creates in response to these proteins can be assessed as bands to further isolate what you were or are still infected with.

k07 my test was positive for 41 and 58. I have never been to Europe. I live on the West Coast of America so that is a long way for a bird to fly. LOL!! Stranger things have happened.

My husband has traveled to Europe many times though - so I'll just blame this whole mess on him. lol

I thought of something last night, I tested positive on the 31 epitope test and I believe that ONLY looks at Borellia B. So no European strand here. Unless I misunderstood the test.

Ko7, yes, band 31 is Lyme specific, which means it will only show up when Borrelia burgdorferi is present.

PeteZa, it's quite common for birds to fly to other continents, but don't forget that there are lots of people (like K07's hubby) that travel to other countries and get bit over there and come back here carrying those organisms. One mosquito bite later, the mosquito has the Lyme bacteria and can now pass it on to other people and animals. It can be spread pretty quickly with international travel and bird migration the way it is.

My daughter has 41 and 58 IGG. So she tested with Igebex with naturo 1st. Was negative on 58 IGG Positive on 41. She received 3 herbs frim naturo. I'm a believer that it pulled thr bacteria out into her bloodstream because she was now positive 3 weeks later with western lab test through infectious disease doctor. He did out her on doxy with only the 2 bands. Also I see questions about the 58 band only being Europe. My daughter has only been in ny and NJ. She was bit by a tick in the woods on long Island nov of 2020. Had no symptoms except minor fatigue fir a year. Then progressed to muscle pain and joint pain.
