Hide and Seek with Borrelia Burgdorferi (poem)

I have been finding myself writing a lot over the past couple of weeks to process the intense emotions I have been feeling regarding my battle with Lyme. Thought I would share this poem.

Hide and Seek with Borrelia Burgdorferi

An uninvited visitor comes to call
and tag, I'm it;
the next host for Borrelia Burgdorferi.

Now endless rounds of
hide and seek.
Wrapped in a cloak of invisibility
Borrelia stealthily plays its wicked tricks.

Snow sounds in my head
an endless shhhhh . . .
like in the old days
when the TV station
shut down for the night.
Please make it stop.

Pains stab my knees,
toes and fingers
shouting to be noticed.
Some days you hide quietly
Blessed relief.

My energy waxes and wanes
like the tides
dragging my feelings of well-being with it
like seaweed tossed in the surf.

Round after round
of hide and seek.
Which medicine or herb will find it?
(Which ones will my body tolerate?)
Is the next ache or burning nerve a sign
that it is dying or multiplying?

On goes the search
for understanding, for answers;
me looking for my
ollie, ollie, in come free.

(Note: " Ollie, ollie, in come free" is also sometimes said as "ollie, ollie oxen free" at the end of the children's game of Hide & Seek to give players safe harbor.

Thanks for your kind words traveler. I've posted in on my blog - don't know anyplace that would be interested in these sorts of poems and hadn't really given that any thought. Mostly I find myself writing to keep my own sanity then just sort of throw it out there to the universe.

Thus far, I have been keeping my Lyme private from my employer and thus would rather not link it to my name.

LOL - that is true that here I'm incognito. I'm not usually hyper-sensitive re: privacy but until I either get past this or get to a place I have to tell my employer (I'm in a satellite office by myself so people don't see my popping my Lyme meds every day ) I prefer the privacy. Or if there is something that comes along that I feel I have to stand up and advocate for in a public way - that would change the game too.
