Using Hydrocortisone for ear fungal infection

Does anyone know if it okay to use Hydrocortisone for an ear fungal infection? Will the steroid in this cause any problems for the Lyme in a small dose? Will it affect Candida as well? I'm suppose to put 5 drops in one ear 3 times daily. Thanks.

Steroids do suppress the immune system, but they are necessary to use sometimes. If you can avoid using the hydrocortisone, then it would be best, but if the infection is pretty serious, then do as your doctor suggests - just be sure to do things that will bolster your immune system to help make up for being on the steroids.

about the Candida, the same applies - it's a steroid that suppresses the immune system, which will allow the Candida to grow, so avoid it if you can, but if you can't then be sure to do things that will strengthen your immune system.

What is the dose of the drops? Sometimes the dose can make a big difference. Hydrocortisone is sometimes used by LLMD's for treating adrenal dysfunction, but in VERY low physiological doses. It's a little bit safer than some of the other steroids like prednisone when used in low doses.

I hope an antifungal is also involved here, or else the steroids by themselves would make the infection worse... I know the steroids might clear the symptoms of the infection for a while, but steroids do nothing to get rid of the infection.

The prescription is for Hydrocortisone and Acetic Acid Otic Solution. It contains 1% Hydrocortisone and 2% Acetic Acid. I am on Nystatin powder for Candida. Razzle is this what you mean by an antifungal or are you referring to something specific for the ear infection? And if so, what have you learned about what anti fungal that should be? Hi, I believe that is what I use sometimes for my ear infections. I have to ask...have you had a lot of ear infections? This has been an ongoing problem for me for years. I've also been on a lot of antibiotics and have a yeast problem as well. So I think the imbalance of yeast/bacteria has taken a toll in my ears. When I eat a lot of sugar/carbs, my ears hurt. If I don't address it right away, it will turn into a full infection. This sounds weird, but using a raw garlic clove in the ear (not all the way but sitting on the outside) works wonders for a fungal ear infection.

But yes, as Raz said, you need an antifungal ear drop as well. And beware that it may keep coming back.

Hi Twinkl1999, this is my first ear infection. The ENT doctor told me that fungal ear infections are hard to get rid of so I am hoping for the best. This is my first bout with Candida and I am having a hard time telling the difference between the Candida and Lyme symptoms. I have had alot of allergic reactions to everyday food
that I have eaten all my life. I have tested negative on allergy testing. My diet is no gluten, dairy, sugar and basically no fun. I have read that Candida causes allergic food reactions but my LLMD doesn't think that is the case which concerns me. I am eating as much raw garlic as I can tolerate so I have no problem trying your suggestion of putting a clove in my ear! Whatever works!

Please be sure that you are taking a lot of probiotics, especially if you are dealing with Candida! This is nothing more than an out of balance good bacteria to bad bacteria in the gut, although it can be quite serious. A good probiotic will go a long way to correcting this situation.

You can also go on a Candida diet - I had to when mine wouldn't clear. I was on it for only several weeks (4 or 6 if I remember right) while taking high doses of good, high quality probiotics. Now I watch closely for Candida issues, and jump on the right away at the first sign!

Hi Traveler,
I have been taking probiotics since I started antibiotics. I have been taking a combo of 35 billion faithfully daily. I use Jarrows Jarro-dopholilus EPS and Culterelle. The Candida is more problematic than the Lyme at this point. I have been on a Candida diet even before I knew I had it. What amount of probiotics have you learned that works best for you to get the Candida under control? Any particular brand that you have found to be helpful?

Well, I make my own kefir, and use it as needed. I have some brewing again right now!! For those that are curious, I drink somewhere between 1/2 cup to 2/3rds cup daily as I need it. I am usually drinking kefir though - sometimes I have to take a break from it though.

about all I know about store-bought probiotics is that the good ones need to be refrigerated!!! LOL!!! Oh well, sorry that I don't know more about it. I know that we have plenty of other members who do have this info though!! I'm sure they will be along shortly to discuss this further!
