Everyone okay that were involved with "Sandy" the storm?

I do hope so!! I know that one of my best friends made it out of there with very little damage.

Please do be careful while out trying to assess any damage, or just moving around!! Not only are there still lots of dangers yet after a storm this big, but the stress of it all on us can have quite an effect on our health!

So please be sure to rest as much as you can - I know that there are all kinds of things that need to be done, but you only have one body, and you really need to take good care of it even in the midst of this.

We are all still sending thoughts and prayers to you all as you now deal with the possible damage that this storm may have created.

Oh - and watch carefully for mold in the coming days .... that won't be helpful either!

We had wind and rain in our town but missed the worst of it. Most of the damage was from downed trees etc. nothing like the Jersey coast and Breezy point :(. Hope all are safe too.

Hi all,

I only lost electric Monday due to high winds.  But I have family (my Mom) on Long Island, Brooklyn, etc. and Long Island got hit bad.   I know the electric company there since I used to live there and they are not great at getting the power turned back on.  They said at least 10 days but I have a feeling it's going to be longer then that. 

I thought of driving down to Long Island but there is really nothing I can do.  I probably couldn't get through anyway due to all the tree's that are down.

I just hope my family has enough food, etc.  This was a really bad storm (hurricane) and my heart goes out to everyone who has been affected by Sandy.

I have seen the footage on BBC; really awful.I hope your family is coping.

My house gets flooded with alarming regularity( only the cellar) so I have an idea what it's like.

I do hope that things will be fine for your Mom! Surely there will be neighbors or disaster relief of some sort that will check on her!

I'm so happy that you made it through with relatively little damage and that your power is back on!

Hi Traveler,

Thanks..  My older brother who is disabled lives with my Mom and I spoke with my brother on his cell phone... Looks like they will be without electric for at least 2 weeks if not more.  My brother said his car charger for his cell does not work so I'm not calling anymore. 

I did explain to my Mom that she can cook without electric because she has a gas oven (she can use the top burners, not the oven itself) which she didn't know.. 

I guess it's going to take some time..  I did contact a congressman who serves that area of Long Island to push the electric company but who knows?  Hey, my motto is I have nothing to lose!  LIPA (Long Island Electric) is really bad..

Hi Tickled,

My cats were really fascinated by the hurricane watching the leaves, trees, etc. swirl around outside!  They stayed close by one of my windows just to watch the storm, it was kind of funny just watching them!

Sorry your cellar gets flooded.. Do you have a pump? 

My first husband was born in Germany though I met him here (he passed away).  I still talk to my Mom-in-Law who lives here in the states but was raised on a farm one hour away from Dusseldorf (sp?).  I myself have never been to Germany or Europe for that matter.  Always wanted to go to Holland though since I'm part Dutch.   Oh goodness, I do go on don't I?  LOL!

Well, I"m sorry that you will be out of contact with your family, but I'm happy to hear that your Mom isn't alone! After really bad storms we can be out of electric for a week or more too! Although I'm all set up with all kinds of things so that we don't hardly even notice we are without power once we get everything going!! LOL!

If your Mom has an electric ignition on her gas stove, she will need to use a match to light the burners, but I'm glad that she talked with you so that she knows she can still use the stovetop!!
