Well, I can certainly identify with you on the expense of all of this! It's such a shame that so many infected with these serious diseases have to worry about
how to pay for treatment.
While I wouldn't suggest that you use the Salt/C "protocol", there are many good protocols that you can use at home out there that can be used safely and effectively. The Salt/C is not based on any science or Holistic medicine. I've researched it and while the high doses of vitamin C can be helpful, the salt is harming you. Please see:
www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/5-signs-youre-eating-too-much-salt.html I would suggest that you look into the other protocols that are spoken of here - Buhner's, Zhang's, Cowden's - they can all be done 'at home' as well.
If you are looking for abx treatment, I would suggest that you download the pdf of Dr. Joseph Burrascano's paper, "Advanced Topics in Lyme Disease"
betterhealthguy.com/joomla/images/stories/PDF/lymdxrx2008-october.pdf - (it can also be found in our "New to Lyme?" thread) It covers Lyme treatment as well as the basic co-infections and you might think about
giving a copy to your doc friend that can treat you.
Testing is not all that accurate, so it would be up to you. It's kind of expensive, but if you have one of the strains that they test for, it could be helpful. Please bare in mind though, that only less than 50% of those tested that have Lyme will test positive - for a number of reasons. The co-infection testing isn't any better. This is why many of the top LLMD's will do a clinical diagnosis (by symptoms) - which you can pretty much do with the symptom lists in the "New to Lyme?" thread.
Also, your current dose of Doxy is too low to actually kill the bacteria. At that dose you are only keeping them from replicating - which will help you to feel somewhat better, but as soon as you come off the abx, the bacteria will go right back to creating more of themselves to infect you further.
Sorry this is short and really to the point - I've got to run -sorry.
I'm sure there will be others commenting soon!
