Hi Citygirl,
I sure wish I could tell you that what others are saying about
that fog just lifting is common, but it's not really. Most of what goes on is a long, slow recovery - depending on how long your Mom had the infections before getting adequate treatment. The longer she went without that adequate treatment, then longer she will need to be in treatment and the slower the progress sometimes, as there are many other factors that usually have to be considered.
Things like she may have viruses (EBV, CMV & others), co-infections of Babesia, Bartonella, RMSF, or others, or any of many other things that can make healing from these infections difficult.
Is she detoxing? If not, I would highly encourage you to help her get started. A body that isn't detoxing or isn't capable of detoxing well, can have trouble healing well. We have a great post on detoxing in the "New to Lyme/" thread that sits at the top of the forum - 1/2 way through the 2nd post down.
Her diet may also be keeping her from healing well - especially if she has some food intolerances. Many here find that they can't tolerate things like sugar, gluten, and fruit sugars.
I would also highly suggest that you and your Dad read through the site, Lyme Spouse (
www.lymespouse.org/) - it's a site set up just for those who have loved ones who are infected with Lyme and the other tick-borne infections to help them understand our side of things.
We understand how hard it is to see us so ill, and how frustrating it can be - but if you take how you feel and multiply it by 1,000 - you would come close to how frustrated we are and how tired we are of being this ill!!
So do your best to be patient, and help her to do all that she can to heal. We will help you understand the best we can, but without having these infections (and NO ONE would wish that on you!!!), we know just how hard it is to understand that no matter what we want, our bodies are in rebellion against us it seems.
