Maddening appt with Pain Doctor

I just need to vent a little bit. My pain doctor who treats my fibro- who in his favor believes in fibro and gives me narcotic pain meds of which I am grateful. Well, when I told him of the Lyme dx- he went off for about 20 minutes about how he doesn't buy it, etc, etc., they just want my money, etc. etc., you have all heard the argument. Well that was about 2 wks ago- today I had a f/u appt w/him and do you know- he sent in a PA that I have never seen before claiming they were really busy- what a coward!! She was really nice but did not really deal with fibro and didn't know much about fibro or the topamax that I am trying now. I asked to see him and she said he wasn't there- but I heard his big loud voice and she was also checking with him with all my questions- why couldn't he take the 10 minutes and come in himself! So frustrating- I have an appt. with another pain dr. tomorrow so I have another card in my pocket. He was recommended by my therapist.

On a positive note- I STARTED MY ANTIBIOTICS YESTERDAY!! Woohoo- I am on my way to healing. I just now need to quit eating all the holiday sugar and goodies...clean it up!!

Sorry you had that experience. I don't get it. I don't understand why Drs. will slap on a diagnosis of Fibro. or CFS and will prescribe serious meds. for it, insurance will cover it, and disability is approved for it, but it's a completely clinical diagnosis. Yet they don't "believe" in Lyme Disease, a serious bacterial infection, and there is often times legitimate bloodworm "proof" that it's there. I just don't understand it!

That's good that you are seeing a new Dr. And, as you get further in to treatment and start to heal, you won't NEED a pain management Dr. Won't that be wonderful :o) ?!?!? Best wishes w/ treatment! Keep us posted!

What an unfortunate experience! Can't say I blame you for finding another pain Doc!

It's such a shame that we scare doc's so much! They really are afraid of us - we represent a treatment dilemma those docs that try to help us are under constant attack and a threat of not only loosing their practice, but their license as well, treatments are hard to figure out, and each patient requires something different.

As you said though, on a positive note, you've started your treatments!!! Woo hoo!! Congratulations!!!

Don't forget to be detoxing while you are in treatment!
