Natural herbs that fight lyme?

Anyone know of any herbs that fight lyme in it's regular form?

Asking cause the next llmd appt available for a llmd I found was un early Feburary. The current llmd I was going to didn't deal with candida or parasites so suggested I switch. I also have a gaestroentologist appointment soon to see if I have cdif ,candida or parasites cause something seems off - insomnia, weird stools, etc... I've had lyme a few minthsbut it seemsmore gastro related now and I'm taking flagyl a little more since it is said to fight c-dif but stopping ceftin in case that was part of the problem.

So wondering if any naturals fight lyme. People say gse can bust cysts and garlic can also have an effect against it. Not sure what naturals fight regular form of lyme though.

Hi there-

I don't know much about herbal treatments but I know there are many knowledgeable people on this board that do!

I'm still waiting for my first appt with an LLMD as well, but I can tell you a few things that I've started in the meantime that are very basic.
Probiotics are a must (especially when you're taking abx). They help restore the good bacteria in your gut (the antibiotics kills the good and bad). I've done a lot of research on this, and I've read that the most effective kind are the strains that require refridgeration (so in the fridge at the health food store). I know I've personally noticed a great difference since I've started the probitotics, and I haven't even started abx yet!

I take milk thistle for liver functioning. I also take magnesium, as it is said to help with muscle pain
Another suggestion is to take detox baths. I use Epsom salts and peroxide for mine, BUT I had a pretty major herx recently and decided to cut back to foot baths for now. If you're unfamiliar with the herx reaction, detox baths, etc then check out the thread "New To Lyme? start here". Lots of helpful info there. But to be brief, detoxing is crucial to healing because you have to rid your body of the bacteria that the antibiotics kill. This die-off is why many get more sick once they start treatment.

Do you have an appt scheduled with an LLMD?

I've also heard that garlic is good. Some other naturals I've heard about include cayenne pepper, ginger root and mustard seed (I often add these to my foot bath). Tumeric is another one that's good for fighting inflammation (I believe that's what it's for, my memory is a little off these days, thanks lyme!)

I'm sorry I don't have more info, but I hope this helps you a little. I'm sure you'll get a lot more info on this topic. Lots of helpful and quite knowledgeable people on this forum!

Stephen Harrod Buhner wrote a book called, "Healing Lyme" - in it, he outlines an herbal protocol that some find quite helpful. And some use the herbs in this book in combination with abx.

Also, most MD's won't have a clue about parasites...it is best to consult someone who has been trained by Dr. K (in WA - has trained many in ART testing and parasite and heavy metals detoxing) - see www.klinghardtacademy.com/ for more info and a doctor referrals list.

Anyway, Dr. K also has an herbal lyme protocol you can Google to find...and then there is Zhang (Houttuynia, other Chinese herbs), Byron White (A-L, A-Bab, A-Bar), Cowden (Samento & Banderol), Jernigan (book = "Beating Lyme Disease" 2nd ed.), etc.

Hi. I have a appointment with a LLMD and switching to one that does antibiotics as well as herbal medicines.

I'm a bit concerned if abx has doing anything to me but have a gastro appointment soon and hope that could clear things up. Have been there as well and the gastro doctor is legit, on the phone they also told me they work with candida and parasites so hopefully they can figure it out.

I got milk thistle too but wasn't sure to take it or not gonna wait too see the gastro first cause ive been having lota insomnia. Have had lyme since summer by the way but think maybe i took too much abx in a row or something, will see tho.

I tried antibiotics , it did not work for me the first , or second time around. I am using The buhner protocol now, and I am adding to it with the help of a LLMD. I may go back on a different round of antibiotics, but first I need help help with liver , and kidney support, also my immune system is shot , so I am trying to build that up before I try any thing new .

From what I read , different things work for different people. There are a lot of different protocols out there, make sure you research it before you spend money. I say this because at the beginning I was just buying what I read, and did not realize that some stuff is not for late stage lyme, and I wasted some money. Also if you are going to buy Herbs make sure , they are from a reputable company, and any thing that is in the bottle should be written on the outside, because there are some places on the web , that use fillers instead of what should be in the bottle.

I am sure if you research in the new to lyme box, you will find different company's that people use. I tend to use two or three different ones, because they have worked well for me. To me it's about cost and quality, so I have to be careful.

How long were you on the abx? I am telling you I felt so much worse on them, instead of better. I know they work for some people but they made me feel horrible.

Thanks. I've been on antibiotics since around September so I think around 4 months. At first I think they did help me but eventually it seemed to be giving me stomach and gi issues. I eventually decided to take a break from them.

At the moment I actually feel more like I'm dealing with some sort of stomach related issue rather than lyme really. I went to a gaestrentologist today and will see if anything comes up on a test namely c-diff or parasites. After being off of ceftin in flagyl for around 24 hours maybe I already feel a bit of a difference.

The new llmd I have an appointment with seems to work with natural supplements as well so this could be an interesting way to go if she thinks that could work as a treatment.

Make sure you're taking a lot of probiotics as well as saccromyces.

Lyme is well known to cause all types of gastro issues, so your issues could still be due to Lyme, especially since you have confirmed that you needed treatment for Lyme.

Probiotics are a must for almost all who have Lyme, whether they are taking abx, herbal abx, or nothing. Even those with issues with diarrhea need to take probiotics.

If you feel the need to see a gastro doc, then by all means please do so! Just realize that a gastro doc that's not trained by ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) they won't ever tell you it's from Lyme disease because they haven't had any training on the subject.

Please do be sure that you don't use steroids though! Steroids suppress the immune system, making the body the perfect playground for the Lyme (& any other infections you may be dealing with) to come out and infect more areas of your body.

Dr. Cowden also has an herbal protocol. Just google Cowden protocol. It is pretty well known and there are sites where you can get the products.

Buhner is another one...someone already mentioned that one. As mentioned, his book outlines his protocol.

Dr. Jernigan also has an alternative protocol that is herbal and natural remedies. The Book, Beating Lyme Disease by Jernigan has detailed instructions on how to use it, including detox and lifestyle.

I read about both Buhner and Cowden's protocols but never used them. I am using Jernigan's...from seeing him at his clinic, and am getting great results.
