Think my llmd may have caused me c diff

Not sure if it is fair to blame them but it was their idea to keep taking antibiotics with no breaks in between for a few months and now my bathroom habits aren't so good.

At least I am seeing a gastroentologist now and will see what test results say and a colonoscapy may be in order.

Guess you gotta be careful with antibiotics. Seems a little lax on the llmds side as well. They seemed good from the start but the doctor usually isn't even at the appointments and they go high on doses of antibiotics. I guess if anyone asked I wouldn't recommend this llmd the next one will be one that does naturals as well.

Also if anyone's wondering the llmd is in NJ, I can give more info anyone wants. Not trying to hurt his business or anything but for one's health it pays to go to ones that wont mess you up.

Sorry you're dealing with this. They didn't advise you to take large amounts of probiotics and S. Boulardii while on antibiotics? Did they have you take Nystatin or Diflucan? Hopefully your appointment goes well and it ends up not being C. Diff.

Thanks. They told me probiotics and I was taking a lot but they didn't tell me about S. Boulardii, and I read about it online so I picked up some yesterday and started taking it twice a day.

They didn't give me Nystatin or Diflucan ether. They actually seemed to not know so much about non lyme disease like candida or parasites cause I've asked them about those and they recommended I see a integrative medicine specialist but I decided to see gasteroentologist after reading about c diff online and that seems to be the way to go now. The doctor here knows about candida and parasites as well so I trust the place.

Yes, they should have told you to take a certain amount of a high quality probiotic and S. Boulardii as well. Both of my LLMDs did. Sorry you're dealing w/ this. Hopefully the GI Dr. can help.

The sad reality is that no one doctor can be responsible for everything we take/don't take. It just won't happen for almost all of us. This is why we need to double check everything that we are told. Everyone has an opinion, and not everyone knows all the things we do about healing. We have to be responsible for our own healing.

Should they have told you about taking large amounts of probiotics? Maybe, but they never received any training about this either. Most Docs -of any type- don't know a thing about it!

Just like detoxing, most doc's don't even think it's necessary. I didn't detox while I took high powered abx (900 mgs of Mino each day) for a full year. My LLMD didn't say one word about detoxing the whole time while I continued to get worse and worse - but it was my responsibility to learn how to detox, without my doc telling me all about it.

Let's take healing back into our own hands. That's what this forum is all about! Sharing what works and what doesn't. The doc's all need to be watched and double check the info they give you as well as the meds! I have been with my doc that is treating me now for 2 1/2 years & I adore her, but I double check everything I can comprehend and she expects me to! No one is above making mistakes!

Hey Xelaetaks,

I though I had C diff quite a few times too, and everytime I was tested for it, it came out negative. Lyme causes a lot of problems witht the GI area. I tried so many different things, and finally what really worked was good probiotics ( I take 1 culturella and 2 Bifido), and this powder called glutagenics, by a company called metagenics. I can't give this stuff enough praise. I believe I have brought it up in endless forums, endless times.

Also, I find that my body needs time to adjust to meds. I always start with one pill and increase another every 3 days. Somtimes it can take a couple weeks to be on full dose, but it significantly reduced the amount of GI issues..

Good point, Trav. I agree! It's very important to research for ourselves and be informed about our medical care. I am the same way, I research EVERYTHING that my Dr. suggests and ask a lot of questions.

Hey. Thanks. My tests all came back normal so I guess maybe I don't have anything, maybe a few more days off antibiotics will get things back to normal.

I do seem to have gotten a little better though And this might be a little tmi but I get sometimes m ucu s when i use the bathroom . The doctor said if I have any problems still later on I could get a colonscopy but thinks it looks fine for now and there's no evidence of infection.

I was also careful I took tons of probiotics during my antibiotics use the only thing I didn't do was take a break, when I asked the office they would say to just keep taking the antibiotics but now I know not to go back there.

The only probiotic I wasn't taking at the time which I now realized is considered helpful for antibiotics is Saccharomyced boulardii lyo whch I started taking recently and that's seemed to help as well.

Travelers point makes a lot of sense. I keep entrusting myself to doctors, and being totally compliant with their protocols. But I think I want to be more in change. I don't like some of things they've put me on... I don't like the thyroid replacement and the estrogen/progesterone, but maybe they were necessary. But a third doctor has gotten me on cortisol, and every time I just don't like it... I get super anxious and just don't feel like myself. At this point I'm working with a LLMD but the appointments are so brief and far between, and I'm only allowed to see the actual doctor every 3 appointment... It feels inadequate. I'm having visions of just treating myself... Taking the doctor money and using it for therapies to support my healing... Also having visions of dropping my insurance, because I'm paying $180 a month for something that doesn't cover any of what I would need.
