what tests to run besides lyme tests

Hello all,

I have some names of LLMDs and am "in process" with that.  I am confident I have had Lyme for 8+ years.  I am going through a TERRIBLE time with a lot of nausea and discomfort - back and stomach. 

I have a wonderful regular dr who is willing to run about any blood work I ask her to.  Based on how badly I'm feeling, I"m going to call and request a comprehensive blood panel, CBS, C Reactive protein, etc.  What I hope you can help me with is WHAT ELSE?  What do I (and maybe she) not know about that might be helpful in any way?  I have been tested for Parvo and will ask for that again and maybe the Epstein Barr? 

My CD 57 2 months ago was 62 - the first one I've ever had done.  Should I request another or is that reduntant?

I'm questioning parasites due to the level of stomach discomfort.  Are there bloodtests for parasites that you've had done or that you are really helpful?

I am so desperate at this point. This discomfort/nausea/pain cycle is going on for weeks and I can't take much more. I know that bloodwork won't "solve" it but maybe it will give some kind of a clue.

I would suggest that you stick to testing from Igenex. Testing for co-infections can also be key, however, I find that it is sometimes very difficult to get true positive results. A good LLMD will usuall be able to know if you have any co-infections.

From my own personal experience (including my daughters), there are always some good tests that can help with a lot of symptoms you maybe experiencing. I would suggest if you are tired, to have your thyroid levels tested, your TSH, free t3, and free t4. TSH alone doesn't cut it, as it may appear normal, even if your thyroid is not. Also, take your cortisol levels. These are great indicators suggesting if your adrenals are working properly. A lot of people's adrenals tank due to the stress of the disease and recovery on the body. Other suggested tests (since your doctor is willing to do them, and if you have insurance to cover this since it can get pricey.. Vit B12, vit D, folic acid, magnesium, iron. These are common difficiences in lyme, all of which can really leave you feeling exhausted. Sometimes, one higher level can mask a deficiency in another, thats why I suggest them all.

I can't think of anything else at the moment, though I will post more as they come to mind...

We also had Heather tested for heavy metals and food allergies like Marie through US Biotek. These are tests that ought to be run at the beginning. In addition to the tests that have been mentioned, I would recommend the Vit. D3 testing, basic blood chemistry, WBC, and liver panel. Your LLMD will probably automatically order most of these tests. Unfortunately most of the parasites are poor. This would be a stool test.

Be aware that many of the tests are highly inaccurate. Lyme Co-infection testing is even more inaccurate than Lyme testing. Both Lyme and co-infections should be diagnosed clinically by a LLMD. However, that being said, the others that posted had some great suggestions and if you can afford the testing/if insurance will cover it and a Dr. will order it, go ahead and get it done.

Also, FYI, Bartonella can cause a lot of GI problems. That was initially my primary symptom. It was severe nausea and vomiting every day. It has improved and is almost gone w/ bartonella treatment w/ Rifampin and Digestive Enzymes before meals.

Agree with many above. Test for Lyme through Igenix. Id also test for Bart (IGM/Igg) and for babesia (FSH). IMO its helpful to test for all cos if you can afford it because if even one comes back positive you'll know that you were in fact bitten and that even if Lyme is negative or bordelyme you probably have that as well. Or you may be like me and be a clear positive --I have Lyme and babs.
