I'm scared of blindness - any ideas

So I noticed I have a lot of blood vessels almost going into my iris....and then I had a flashback to my eye visit 2 years ago with the dr telling me that my contacts had done permanent damage...except I hadn't worn them in awhile...and now with all this going on - I'm making the connections. It wasn't my contacts that did the damage. I have an appt with ILIADS optomotrist who has Lyme that is next week. I have Bart I am certain and Lyme but can anyone suggest anything in the meantime herb wise that will get though to the infection in my eye and be effective..... I don't know if it is from the lyme or the bart.

I'm so scared I could go blind...

Sorry, its just I've started having the dizziness and brain fog now all the time. It is so scary.

I'm sorry you're scared...I have had the same fears with my vision. If it helps at all, both my first and current LLMD and a NP from a lyme advocacy group have assured me that I am not going to lose my vision. They all said that my vision problems are very common with lyme and that it will slowly clear up with treatment, but will take a while.
The symptoms of Lyme and co-inf. are very frightening. I mean seriously, how could they not be?!?! It's so systemic and affects every part of the body.
Sorry that I can't help w/ the herbals, don't know much about herbals.
Please let us know what the ILADS optometrist says!

I believe some of the things are reversible, the eye fog and the floaters But blood vessels don't go away which is why I'm so scared - and at that point the only thing that could fix it would be an eye transplant which I couldn't do until my lyme treatment was successful and in remission. I asked my husband about it and he said if I go blind then I'd be blind. confused   Thanks husband....

I have had Lymes eye problems on and off for 7 years now. I have iritis and euvitis and have to get steroid drops quite often to keep knocking down the flare ups. Even though, when my eyes are flared up, my vision is quite poor and pretty whacky, it does come out of it and I get my same vision that I had pre-Lymes back. It is kinda scary when it happens, but I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about blindness. Out of the many people that I have talked to and/or met through local Lymes meetings, I have only met 1 person that lost sight in one eye, for 2 1/2 months, but with proper treatment from eye specialist, she got the sight back. I have had floaters in both my eyes since I was 20 (I am 48), I believe they are very common and cause no harm, other than being very annoying.

It sure sounds like the Bartonella is responsible for the creation of new blood vessels in your eyes. Buhner talks about that very thing in his book "Healing Lyme" on page 199:

"Bartonella has a particular affinity for endothelial cells where they exhibit potent angiogenesis-stimulating actions. .... The bacteria always cause (to greater or lesser degree of severity) proliferation of microvascular endothelial cells and neovascularization (angiogenesis)."

I don't remember reading anything about any other microbe having that sort of specific characteristics, at least with regard to the Lyme and coinfections.

I am approaching your problem from the perspective that i would have if one of my loved ones had your specific problem. However, I also have to consider what I understand your personal perspective to be. I see 3 possible options for you.

1) Do not seek to target your eye problem in isolation from the rest of your body. Just treat the Bartonella with a really effective systemic approach on the whole body.

2) Treat the eye problem with a narrowly focused targeting of the eye in isolation from the rest of the body. You should still treat the body as a whole, but you also would treat the eye with a targeted treatment with an approach that you are familiar with within your paradigm. Can effective Bartonella preparations be made in the form of eye drops? I have had numerous eye surgeries, and I always had to place antibiotic eye drops into my eyes to prevent infection. If these specific eye drops do not exist, can a compounding pharmacy, for instance, prepare them for your specific needs? This would require the cooperation of your LLMD, and Ophthalmologist, and a pharmacist.

3) Pursue treatment in a way that is presently outside of your paradigm and consideration. There may be treatment approaches employing bio-energetic modalities that are non-toxic and non-harmful to your eyes, and yet are effective.

I will not be presumptuous and push you in any particular direction. These are just my ideas. It is true that your eye problems will probably resolve on their own as a consequence of a generally effective treatment for Bartonella.

WWJD is correct in observing that blindness does not seem to be an issue for Lyme patients. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers!
