Why am I so cold??? I've been freezing all day. I dress in layers, drink hot tea whenever possible, but it's driving me crazy. I can't get anything done, I'm under a mound of covers! Why would I be this cold, does anyone know? It's not that cold out where I live, maybe in the low 50's, and I have the heat on, but nothing seems to be helping...brrrrr!!!

Hi Lymer,

Yes, it is common to have low body temp with lyme and other chronic illness. I have had, it is now raising back up to normal, thankfully. There are various causes, all treatable.

Here is an excellent article about illness and low body temp written by the doc that I see. Don't worry that the title says fibromyalgia. He has a whole chapter in his book "Beating Lyme" on low body temp. It is applicable to lyme's disease with or without fibro symtpoms.

It is worth noting that mainstream medicine attributes low body temp to low thyroid function. I think this article goes deeper into the reasons.

Thanks nan! The irony of your post is that I have been Dx'ed with Fibro and hypothyroidism!! I'll check out the link now, as soon as I finish my tea and emerge from these covers! :)

A warm bath is the only thing that works for me when im chilled to the bone.

buy a hot pack (you can get them on amazon too, i like the ace brand tru fit) or make a bed buddy (rice or buckwheat in a sock then put into a microwave); that's what i do; i put a smart temps heating pack under my pillow every night after heating it up; it stays warm (it's a large one) and then at 5 am i grab it and curl up to it; or use it during the day, too.

you can also buy warmers from amazon, reusable or disposable, they help too

I get like this sometimes, especially during a flare or herxing. At first, I thought that my body temp.was normal, but then took it a few times recently when I was cold and it was around 96 degrees!

A heated blanket is the only thing that helps me.

I had the same problem yesterday, i had two pairs of sweats on, and a jacket , I still had to get under the covers, because I was freezing. Think is has something to do with the Lyme, everyone in the house was saying it was warm in here. Hoping you warm up today.
