Hi,

Just came home and found the latest test results in the letterbox:

  • My husband tested negative on the PCR test for Bartonella - don't know what to think about that - hope it's not a false negative... he's happy, but he doesn't read about it like I do...
  • I got tested for Borrelia for a second time:
    • Borrelia Serology IgG: negative
    • Borrelia Serology IgM: negative
    • Borrelia IgM: p41 detected but this is not enough to consider the sample as positive or borderline
      (this is not a note from the dr, but typed on the lab report)

I don't know anything about that last point - can someone give me some information on that?

I know the testing is not accurate at all, but being Bart positive, and having so many symptoms of both Bart and Lyme says a lot to me. I wonder how the dr will interpret this when I go back in a few weeks...

Band 41 means that the "tail" of the spirochete has been detected. Many will test positive for this, and many will have a different spirochetal infection and will test positive for Band 41.

As you already know, many test negative for the few bands that are tested for. There are over 300 strains of Lyme in the world - it's not surprising that we miss so many of these infections since at most only 5 different strains are being tested for. That's not to mention that the Lyme bacteria had different forms that it can take that the immune system doesn't even respond to it since it can't "see" it.

Same thing with Bartonella testing- although there are only about 20-some different strains of Bart, not 300. Although, there are only about 3 different stains that are tested for out of the 20 -some that are possible.

It's these reasons that the most knowledgeable LLMD's will diagnose clinically.

Thanks Traveler, I did some searching on the forum meanwhile. I was never tested this way, earlier tests were PCR tests.
I thought the lab report was not very detailed, there's no detail on what bands I got tested. The only thing that was written on it was what I wrote here on the forum...
