MS?

So, my mom was diagnosed w/ MS about 4 years ago. Of course, since my Lyme diagnosis, I have wondered if she has LD. However, she doesn't have any pain. I've asked her if she has joint and/or muscle pain and she said no. Although I do remember her saying that she had bouts of jaw pain years ago which the Drs. thought was TMJ. She is a nurse and very much believes in conventional medicine. I have asked her to consider lyme testing and seeing my LLMD, but she doesn't think there's any reason to. She has the typical symptoms of MS-brain lesions, sudden optic neuritis, fatigue, cognitive problems. She really is doing fairly well and hasn't seen an increase of symptoms since being on MS treatment, which suppresses the immune system.

So, I guess my questions are 1) If she had LD, would she definitely have pain? 2) Would she have worsened on the MS drugs, which suppress the immune system?

Nobody on this forum is an expert in such matters. We can only give our opinion or tell you what some experts have said.

I would like to just share some of my reasoning about the topic of autoimmune diseases in general. Everything has a cause. Yet, as far as I know, there are no known causes for any of the autoimmune diseases. Why is that so? One would think that with all of our technological advancement, that some progress would have been made by now. It seems kind of fishy to me.

When you take a look at the definition of what MS is, with all of its defining characteristics, we can see that it looks like what would be called Lyme Disease in other patients. There have been many Lyme patients that have first been diagnosed with MS because their symptoms fit the classic definitions of MS. They later were diagnosed as having Lyme Disease, and were then treated accordingly. Many of these patients have improved or were cured. The same story applies to Lupus, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, and other diseases without a known cause.

When the so-called experts ignore the obvious, then I agree- there is no known cause-nor will there ever be. The members here on this particular forum are a lot more saavy than a lot of chronically ill people are. There is an obvious coverup of just how prevalent and serious Lyme Disease is, and our members know it! Some of our members see the bigger picture as well- that there is a coverup with a lot of illnesses- not just Lyme Disease. The Lyme coverup is just part of a bigger coverup.

It makes a lot of sense to me. Why should institutionalized ignorance just be confined to one specific illness (Lyme)? My opinion is that it isn't. There is a lot of money available to conduct endless research, and to perform endless and expensive treatments on people with the incurable diseases. Just follow the money trail.

To answer another aspect of your questions- not all people with Lyme have pain. I have seen several that don't. I don't know whether your mom has Lyme or not. I would just caution her that many people diagnosed with MS were later found out to have Lyme.

I would advise you to watch the "Under Our Skin" documentary. You will see that many people with autoimmune diseases actually have Lyme and coinfections. I have also attached a very interesting article about the coverup. It is a long article. I would invite everyone reading this to please be patient, and to read the entire article. You will find that many researchers have documented that Lyme is found in many or all MS patients. Yet, those research findings are systematically being expunged from the public record. It is all about money!

The fact that your mother was diagnosed with MS is a strong reason to be evaluated for Lyme and coinfections in my book. Good luck with your research, and I hope that your mother is capable of thinking independently.

Thanks for the info Don!!!! I will chime in. My MRI was done early December without contrast. It was a fuzzy picture and the radiologists pretty much concluded MS! My doctor ordered another MRI with contrast. It was clearer and the lesions were now unspecified spots/matter. She automatically tested me for Lyme and connected me with a neurologist and neuro opthomologist. I was then diagnosed with Lyme.

She said when her patients that have a screwy MRI she always tests for Lyme. (She's smart). I too don't have too much pain. Sore spots and my right legs gets weak the most. The neuro/neuropathy symptoms aren't cool. I also have gotten the waves of fatigue but my neurologist ruled out MS, Fibro, etc.

I hope your mom tests for Lyme just to see. Why suppress the system with drugs that aren't right because of a misdiagnosis.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to continue to research the link and hopefully I can find some good, solid articles about it to send to her. So many of my symptoms and hers are so similar that it really does make me wonder if it's Lyme Disease. That's good to know that not everyone with LD has pain.

Momof2-I do know if a LLMD in Ohio. He has an office in Columbus and Cleveland. He's fairly new to treating LD, but I'll e-mail you w/ his info. I saw him initially, but switched to my LLMD in Indiana because I wanted someone w/ more experience.

i was dgx with ms 8 years ago...........took ms drug for 6........now taking cowden protocol, hope it help.

She's seeing my LLMD at the end of May when I go for my follow-up. It just took her going to my last LLMD appt. with me, reading the lyme journals in the waiting room, and meeting my dr. whom she really liked. She asked my dr. if she thought my mom should be tested for it and my dr. said "yes, definitely, I have way too many patients with MS for you not to be tested". I'll let everyone know what the results are when she gets them back this summer!
