Heterozygous means you have one copy of the variant gene and one normal gene. This still means you need to compensate for the gene, but methylation is not as disabled as it would be if you were homozygous for MTHFR.
That said, you do need to find out WHICH gene they tested you for - there are two!
The compensation is easy:
5-methyltetrahydrofolate (methyl-folate) instead of Folic Acid - and you need to limit your intake of Folic Acid. The variant gene causes difficulty with converting folic acid into methylfolate.
Vitamin B12 - preferably methyl-B12 or hydroxy-B12. This aides in the use of the methylfolate in the methylation cycle.
The methylation cycle is what creates glutathione. We cannot detoxify lyme/coinfection toxins or heavy metals without glutathione.
Also, people with MTHFR variants are more likely to have increased risk of heart disease, stroke, clotting disorders, miscarraige, and many other issues.
So compensating nutritionally for this gene variant is very important to your overall health, in addition to healing from Lyme/coinfections.
