Best Lyme Treatment? Suggestions?

My doctor is not a LLMD, there are none in Hawaii.

What in your option is the best antibiotic treatment with the best results?
1. For IF I can ever find a doc who will let me have IV treatments, I have heard rocephin, but what are the other things you need to add to it, and are the IV or oral?

2. I most likely will have to, at least for the mean time, take orals due to the fact I cant find a doc with IV authorization. My body can not handle Doxy, I have severe stomach pain and vomiting.
What are the best combinations?

My most debilitating symptom is a constant headache/migraine. I really need relief, and if anyone has over come this, I need encouragement :)
My other symptoms include muscle and joint pain, sore feet in the morning, hot flashes, sometimes chills, nausea, vomiting, and now involuntary movements in my sleep which result in painful tongue biting...

I have a positive ELISA and awaiting Igenex western blot results. co-infections tested negative but I think they are playing a huge role.

It's impossible to predict what the best treatment will be. Some people have great success with IV's, others with orals and some don't improve until they try herbs. It's going to be pretty much impossible to safely figure out what to take without consulting with a LLMD. You may need to travel out of state a few times with the goal of finding one who will eventually do phone consults with you.

From your symptoms, it sounds like you might have bartonella or babesia as well as Lyme. Also, the involuntary movements/tongue biting can be a sign of seizures.

As far as what can be used for IV's: Doxy, Zithromax, Rocephin, Claforan, Clindamycin and Vancomycin are all common options. Some people also do IM bicillin or IM Rocephin.

For orals there are tons of choices. For Lyme generally it's good to combine something that attacks the cell-wall deficient form, the spirochete and the cystic form. So usually doxy, mino, ceftin or amoxicillin/probenecid combined with a macrolide like biaxin or zithromax and something for the cystic form like tindamax, flagyl or grapefruit seed extract.

Babesia the meds are different and usually consist of Mepron or Malarone combined with zithromax. Coartem is sometimes used. Or sometimes people use herbs because the cost of Babesia medications is unbelievably expensive. Cryptolepis, Sida acuta and artemisinin are the main herbs for babesia.

Bartonella has some different choices also. Some people use the fluoroquinolones (levaquin, factive, cipro) but they have risks of tendon damage. Rifampin is another choice. Bactrim DS has some activity against Bart as well especially if combined with a tetracycline family antibiotic.

Thanks. Ill be taking clarithromyicin and rifampin ( as soon as it gets "pre authorized")
Also teasel root and 'lyme tea' with 3 herbs in it (nasty tasting)
I'll now be ordering some grapefruit seed extract and artemisinin to help the fight.

my personal biggest hurtle. I take piles of supplaments, IV rocephin, eat well and detox often.
I feel pretty good until it happens...you'll know when it does, you can feel your life energy getting sucked out of you for the next few days.
good balance is what gets and keeps people well. I just have a hard time not over doing it.

Summer provided a lot of good info.

I'm on Mino, Rifampin, and GSE for Lyme and Bart. My LLMD said that mino. crosses the Blood Brain Barrier better than most abx. so it's good for neuro. involvement. She said she also sees good results with Rifampin for Bart and you don't risk tendon rupture like you do with the fluoroquinolones.

It does sound like you may have Babs and Bartonella. The testing for co-infections is even more inaccurate than the testing for lyme.

You could also go ahead and start on an herbal protocol, such as Stephen Buhners, although there are many out there.
