I'm currently doing a 2-day chelation protocol to check for heavy metals. Well, I know I'm loaded because I can literally smell it in my urine. (sorry if that was TMI) However, I feel pretty lousy. Could this be because we're sucking all the heavy metals out of their hiding places?
Also, for those of you who are Jernigan fans--am I imagining this or did he say to be careful about
chelation because the metals can get pulled from one place and then trapped in another? I know I read that somewhere and I'm just assuming it was he who said it, but it could have been Buhner.
At any rate, it's making me nervous. I only have one kidney and I worry about
trying process all of this stuff through only one kidney. My doctor knows I only have one, so I'm assuming she knows what she's doing. Also, the Chemet feels like it's making my lungs itchy. Very weird.
Did I mention I hate Lyme disease? Watching 'Under Our Skin' yesterday was not in the lease bit helpful for my anxiety!

Hi Shabby,
I have never been through chelation, my doc told me my levels weren't bad enough to warrant the risks. I do remember reading one of the well respected LL Docs saying that the metals can be trapped in other places in the body if the body can't process them fast enough as they are pulled out of their hiding places and into the blood.
Do be careful!! Thoughts and prayers going out to you!

Hi Well! She gave me Chemet. 4 pills 3 x a day for the first day, 4 pills 2x a day for the 2nd day and the 2nd day is when you collect the sample. I had to save 8 hrs. worth of urine and shake it up and fill a smaller test tube and sent it off this afternoon. You can't eat ANY fish for a full week in advance.
As I said, I definitely smelled metal which was really unnerving, but we'll see what the results are. It's definitely one of the factors that can keep you from getting completely well, but I'm not looking forward to it if I have to do it. I'm reading Dr. Jernigan's book now and he has herbs that help you get rid of toxins including metals in a gentler fashion. I may ask my doctor if I can use that instead of what she gave me today. I don't know how quickly she would do it, hopefully she would take it really slow since my system is already taxed enough as it is. We'll see.
Hope that helps!

Thise pills can make you feel pretty lousy.. They did for me.. Although I do believe it was the toxins that were really doing it too.. I have high levels of mercury, lead, and cadmium.
You were right when you read that when chelation isn't done properly, it can get pulled out of one place and into another. Actually, it's because the body has a tough time excreting it and it gets reabsorbed into the body. Do you have any problems with detoxing, such as MTHFR or any HLA markers? It there is a problem there with either one of those, detoxing must be done, and other certain steps and precautions must be taken.

Hmm. Samjones. I'm not sure if I have that marker or not. I don't think I do, only because when I stay on top of my detoxing rituals, I can manage my herxes pretty well. I don't feel great today though boy, I can tell you that! Even though I did an ionic foot bath last night, I don't think it was enough. I'll have to do double duty today and see how it goes.
Thanks everyone for your input!

Hello - i'm a little late in responding to this post but wanted to post my experience as I'm currently chelating mercury and copper.
My dr. found these levels to be high from the NutraVal test (Genova, I think). He advised me to take 500 mg DMSA 3 days/week and 200 mg ALA daily. I knew very little about
chelation so went online before I started. I totally freaked myself out b/c there's so much out there about
various protocols and that each one can cause trouble. Also read not to chelate with amalgams in, and I have NINE!
I was really torn and waited to start until I had another appt w/ my dr. to ask about
all of this. He said that he is aware of all this conflicting info out there, but that you can chelate with amalgams in b/c the rate at which the chelators remove it is greater than which the fillings release it. He ultimately said it was my choice and that he didn't even believe that I needed to remove the amalgams. He said that fillings are only one source.
So...I began his protocol and have had no issues in the 2.5 months. He will test my levels via urine test every couple of months. Hope to get my latest results soon. I also had 3 amalgams removed by a holistic dentist 1 month ago w/no issues.
