Has anyone received treatment at Shea Medical Clinic in Scottsdale,AZ for Lyme disease?? What were your results? I have been struggling with Lyme for almost 5 yrs and want to be as close to "well" I can get! Their treatment sounds like it would be a good path to go down, but would like to hear from some who have been there. Thank you in advance! Bethany.

Joined due to your question. So confusing about what to do. Wish I knew what a bulls eye was. Had this at 8 yrs ago. Seeking help then figured it out myself. How were you diagnosed?

I want to WELCOME both of you to this forum. I am sorry to hear that you are suffering with this illness, but am glad that you have found us. There are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable people here with a wealth of experience. They are anxious to help you. I would like to direct you to the thread entitled "New to Lyme....Start Here?" thread at the top of the thread column. It has a lot of good information that is good to know for anyone that has this illness. One of the topics is detoxing, which is very important.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the clinic, so I cannot comment on that. I have perused their website, and it seems that they have a much broader approach to treatment than many LLMD's. I hope that there are people here with first hand experience , and that they will make comments for you.

The bullseye rash is a telltale sign that you have been bitten by a tick carrying the infection. There may be other rashes as well caused by other infections. Here is a CDC link:

Some of the better informed doctors use clinical diagnosis based on symptomology, along with a possible confirmation by a blood test that is not always accurate. My daughter's well informed doctor used a combination of clinical diagnosis based on symptomology, weighted equally with a frequency based test that is very accurate.

We would like to know more about both of you, and your journey thus far.

Hi HotpinkLyme! :). Cute name. I was diagnosed with a Western Blot from IgeneX. I was very sick for over 2 years before we even learned about Lyme. I was a very healthy, fit mom of 4 when it finally took me down. I think I had been fighting the symptoms for a long time, but it finally won -- and big. I was having what is called pseudo-seizures, unable to walk correctly and at times was in a wheelchair. It attacked my endocrine system as well. Finally meeting a LLMD, who put everything together was such a blessing. However, I've been on antibiotics now for almost three years. The people at Shea say that my treatment hasn't been aggressive enough, that their treatment would penetrate the blood/brain barrier and get to the bacteria and viruses that have gotten there as well as detoxing metals and toxins (my lead is 3x too high!) and hopefully win the battle to where my immune system can once again do its job adequately. They require an 8 week stay. I was hoping to find someone who has been there to know if their results have been as expected. I AM so much better than I was in 2007-2009! I can at least function as a busy mom. Haven't been able to go back to the gym and hard yard work really makes me sick now, whereas before I could work all weekend, sleep well and go on. Not now. I'd just like to have the body to go with my will!!

Welcome to our community! I needed to explain to you why I edited your post. All I did was remove the first name in the medical clinic that you were asking about - it draws unwanted attention when a specific name is posted like that. We are an open forum, meaning anyone with a computer can read these posts. We try to protect the few doctors in this country that are willing to treat us, so we don't allow doctor's names/clinics to be posted.

Most likely anyone looking for that clinic or that has info on that clinic will have a look at this thread the way the title reads now.

I did! When I first arrived at Shea Medical, I was very sick, and my health was only getting worse as each day passed. I had been diagnosed 4 years ago with Lyme Disease, and had tried conventional treatments, all which did nothing. The doctor took his time to listen to me, answer my questions, and clearly describe my illness and treatment. Shea Medical saved my life. Their cutting-edge integrative approach to treating my Lyme disease is what finally allowed me to start living again. I spent 9-weeks, Monday through Friday at their clinic and received the best care that I have ever received before. It likely just got overlooked.

For most people, Lyme clinics are only helpful to start off the healing process. They generally get you started with detoxing and maybe with some treatment, but then you have to follow up at home with an LLMD anyway, just so you know.

I called them. Avg treatment cost is $50-$70k for about 10 weeks. I don't think they take insurance but they will give you statements of your treatment with all the billing codes, so you could submit to your insurance with the hope of getting some reimbursement. I think the use insulin potentiated therapy with abx. They were very nice on the phone.

I am appalled that the treatment is this expensive. WTH is wrong with this world? My son is dying from his and I have no way to help him unless I magically find 50-70k???

i am so sorry your son is so sick with Lyme disease.
Is he currently being treated by a LLMD?

There are ways to treat your son without spending 50-70k.

Not many people sick with Lyme disease can afford to go to a treatment facility.
In fact, some people can't even afford the LLMD's.

I know how you feel Trixie1909. This bacteria really makes you feel lost and alone...well, I was going to say "at times" but it is pretty much all the time! My son (as well as myself) are currently be treated for Lyme & more. My son's symptoms are not too bad at this point, but I'm not going to wait for it to get worse. My other two children have appointments to get an IgeneX western blot done. If they are positive then I've likely had this since I was a kid and passed it to them in utero.

I hope you will share your story with us...Lot's of smart people on here that can help.

Welcome to our community! I'm so glad you found us.

I actually agree with you that the cost of treatments are ridiculously high, but part of that is that our doctors are actually being persecuted. The higher cost keeps some people out that would only be there to create issues with the doctors and we have lost quite a few doctors over the years to medical boards revoking their license, or putting huge restrictions on the doctors because they didn't follow IDSA treatment guidelines. We are still working hard at getting this changed, but we aren't there yet.

Unfortunately, this also stops lots of Lyme patients because they simply don't have the money for these expensive doctors. As Girlie said, there are ways to treat your son without spending that kind of money though, and we might be of help to you in finding at least some of those.

I'd also like to thank you for pointing out that Loricmoni post is suspicious. That will alert those that read this post.

It is expensive, but my question is: how does one work the financing to obtain treatment? I feel like I'm at deaths door, and at some point, money doesn't matter. If giving up all I've worked for means I can be healthy again, I guess I have to consider this. I have way too much brain fog to "treat myself" anymore 😭

I would give up a lot to get well. But, unfortunately going to a clinic, such as this one, doesn't guarantee you will be well.
I'm not willing to 'sell the farm' and end up still sick.

Yes, some do get well...but not all.


You don't have to treat yourself though. Are you not able to see a LLMD? Or a LLND?

If you haven't yet, please do read through our "New to Lyme?" thread, as it's packed with helpful information - and on page 2 there is a list of places you can go to in order to get help paying for different aspects of treatment (not usually to a clinic though, from what I understand), particularly if your income is quite low.

Besides what Girlie shared, some Functional Medicine doctors are also proving to be valuable partners in helping people to heal- but you will have to 'vet' them first, to know if it's worth your time exploring their practice further.
