Thyroid/adrenal testing on an empty belly or not?

Hi All,

I made an appointment with my GP for tomorrow evening for thyroid and adrenal testing (he doesn't know yet  :-)  ). Now I'm just thinking that I don't know if he needs to draw blood on an empty belly or not? The dr's cabinet is already closed, so I can't call them.

Does anyone here know if an empty belly is necessary?

I think with the thyroid it wouldn't matter. You would have to fast for a long time for an anomoly to show up. It is probably the same with adrenals. I have only had thyroid tested however so I'm not sure!

I'm with Beth aka Opugirl here.

When I had my thyroid tested I can't remember having to do it on an empty tummy.

Can't you ring up the doctor before you have breakfast just to make sure?

thanks to both of you! I just wanted to ask him the bloodtest out of the blue, gives him less time to think about it (I'm a bit mean now, but sometimes I need to manipulate things a bit... it's not my style at all, but it's sometimes permitted...)

I don't know who is doing your testing or what the test is. My daughter had the adrenal stimulation test-ACTH by LabCorp. Their website says that it should be a fasting test. I don't know whether failure to fast causes a false test result.

Don, he'll be drawing blood for the testing.

I couldn't reach him (GP) today, so I just went. I need to have an empty stomach for the adrenal test, not for the thyroid. But the appointment was interesting.

I told him everything. He didn't know anything about Bartonella, never heard of it, I had to spell it (I'm not joking!). He heard about Lyme though and was really interested. I'm the first patient he meets with this? He's gonna do the testing. He also believes that CFS/ME/Fibromyalgia doesn't have to be 'between the ears'. It's a start...
