I had my appt. with my LLMD yesterday, and she diagnosed me with Babesia. I will be starting Mepron. Does anyone have experience with this? How did it make you feel? Should I be taking it with something else to attack the Babs?

Dreading the herx, but I feel if I can get the Babs under control I will feel a lot better. I constantly cycle with herxing or symptoms every 5-7 days. Chills, sweats, fatigue, severe pain, headaches, and a swaying feeling.

Normally Mepron is used with another drug.

Make sure to take something fatty with your Mepron. I know in the mornings I used peanut butter or almond butter and nights was a good excuse for a little ice cream!

It is kinda like taking a drink of thick, yellow road paint. I had no problems with Mepron and took it for 4 months.

I took mepron two times. I never made it past 8 weeks. It messed with my liver too much. The herxing for me was moderate depending on what I took it with. It was worse with Zith and Doxy than it was with Cleocin.

Mepron needs to be taken with fat and you can't take CoQ10 while on it. It definitely needs to be with zith or art to avoid resistance.

I take mine with organic peanut butter. The fat helps the Mepron absorb.

Hope you have great insurance. It costs me (with insurance) $1600 for 2 weeks. Ugh. Malarone is another, cheaper option since there is a generic alternative.

My night sweats stopped after one week of Mepron plus Zithromax.

I wish I could say the same about mepron.

I am on the mep/zith combo higher dosage and it jsut does not seem to be working until I add artemesia though I have to watch with art.

I have not had ill affects being on mep (and I do take it with PB). I also get my blood levels checked.

Make sure you shake it up good. Treatment should be at least 4 months and make sure you have your liver enzymes checked during the treatment.

Well, I'm glad to hear that no one seems to be having a terrible experience with it. My dr. prescribed it and wants me to take it with the Artiminasin capsules mixed in with the paste (she also gave me some sort of fat in a powder form). I'm supposed to mix them all together and take at once.

I still herx from the Art. alone so I'm waiting for that to calm down before I add in the Mepron. I'm too chicken to try it, so I'm glad to hear it seems to not be so bad for you all!

I will second what summer3 has said. My daughter had very elevated liver enzymes while she was taking the Mepron for almost 6 months. They improved when she discontinued use of the Mepron.

Mepron should be used with another ABX such as Azithromycin to prevent resistance to the medication. As has been stated- take with some fats to aid absorption.
