I have Lyme Disease and I have been looking for more holistic remedies to help ease any pain that I have been having. My chiropractor has an infrared sauna and I have been using it a few times a week. I am feeling better, and am able to relax and get a better nights sleep.

My chiropractor has a Sunlighten sauna and recommends I get one. Have any of you experienced relief from an infrared sauna? Which brand do you use?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi, I am new here. I have an infrared sauna/portable. It seems to be helping, especially with joints, muscles, aches. I think i get about 3 hours of feeling better, maybe even an energy boost. Not a cure...but any help and relief is welcome! Sweat runs off me like a river! usually I don't sweat at all. I stay in an hour @ 130*
I think it makes alot of sense for de-toxing and the heat and the oxygen to cells. Daily seems to be best. If i skip 2 or 3 days, i notice more aches.

I bought it on amazon.com It was $177.00 plus tax. There are others much more expensive that look the same. It is made ok. Some sloppy workmanship but, ...it WORKS great :D I would definitely like it to be wider, but there is not a portable one i have found that is wider. This one is like a tent, with your head out the top. For the money I am not unhappy. Actually, I am happy to have far infrared at this price.

I purchased an infrared sauna from Costco last summer. It is an extremely nice looking unit. I'm traveling today, but I will get back to you with the brand soon. It is a "3person" sauna. It was relatively easy to put together, but you do need 2 people. It has an mp3 connection inside, I connect my iPod and the speakers work great( again it is a small piece of furniture, so not too hard to get good sound. The temp goes up to 150, and there is a reading light.
I paid either $1400 or $1499-cant remember. Costco had a sale for $500 off so I grabbed it. No regrets at all, it is really nice

Thank you for the quick feedback! I've been looking into several companies and they all have different types and range of costs. The technology is pretty extreme from what I am hearing. There are differences in heater efficiency and types of sweat??

I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I do want something that will look nice and last a long time while providing relief. My neighbor has a healthmate that she said I could use and see how it adds up to the Sunlighten at my chiropractic office.

Any feedback on the technology? I am having a hard time trying to wrap my head around all of it. My doctor's office has a full spectrum which I guess is a near mid and far infrared system, while most other saunas are far infrared only. Have any of you heard of the full spectrum?

I have just ordered a near ir sauna for our daughter (11 yo). There are not too many manufacturers out there, but they are less expensive and are farther away from the microwave end of the spectrum than the far infrared.

GroundedGypsy, I have an infrared sauna that sounds similar to yours which I also bought from Amazon since I could not afford to buy the expensive one (good thing because I moved to another state and took my portable with me).  I love my portable sauna and I have it 4 or more years now.  Still works great and makes me feel really good and very relaxed.  And I still sweat so much from it!

I will have to look into a good far infrared company. When I ask about EMF what is considered "Low" I know that pretty much anything that runs on electricity emits EMF, but when I research the Mg levels I'm not sure what to consider an acceptable number.

I will have to look over that website, so far it looks great!

I don't have a sauna but my Enviromental doc had recommended the "cheaper" versions as a couple of you have mentioned. She had a detox/sauna unit. I read reviews & most everyone loved them. As for the wood versions, alot of us with mold illness (and I would assume lyme) are sensitive to chemicals. I was told because of this & because these units heat, they would release toxins, terps from the wood, etc. & that there were only a couple safe to use for MCS. The wood it was made out of was a HUGE factor. I have worried about plastic from the cheaper models as well but have heard outgassing them in the sun is helpful. Just thought I'd chime in with what I've been told.

I have heard about that too, which is why the cheaper models worried me. My doctor told me to look for saunas made from hypoallergenic basswood and that had zero plastic clips.

Hi Jordanne, I purchased an Infrared sauna last summer. I actually was researching for about six months then got really ill. Little did I know then I had spirochetes of some kind. I knew what I wanted in an Infrared sauna... little or no EMF's, natural wood so no chemical leaching and I wanted it made in the US or Canada.
Those perimeters really narrowed the field. Some companies won't post their EMF's or aren't concerned, some say their materials are this and that but no evidence of such. I finally found a co. in CA, called them so many times but they never faltered, provided me with info, etc. It cost alot to ship across the border but i was convinced they had the best unit. I bought a 2 person unit, small enough that what easy to put together and fit in a bedroom. Hindsight, if I knew I would be moving so many times I would have bought a portable unit. I suppose you could test the smaller ones with a meter for EMF's? I used mine alot for a few months before I moved a few times. I actually got better... and that was before I knew what was wrong with me. I was stable for a few months and then bingo... I went downhill fast. I just recently got it set up again and go in about 5 times a week. I know it can't kill the spiro's but I believe it is making my body healthier and uncomfortable for them. Even if I wasn't ill, I would be using it the same amount as I believe the Infrared and sweating are good for me. I have no interest in the company but not sure I can post the name but I am confident I got the best one on the market. Just because they say "Infrared" does not mean they are all the same! Do your homework.

Does anybody know of a protocol that goes well with the infrared sauna treatment? I have heard of using a biofilm buster & taking a shower right after so the toxins don't re-absorb into your skin.

Yes I have been using IFR sauna's for a year now...they are especially good since I haven't been able to exercise very much but I am getting there...sweating is perfect for lyme patients...but drinking water before, during, & after is so important...I drink half my body weight in ounces of water per day...for me, at least 100 ounces per day...exercising goes well with the sauna if you can...the lyme bugs seek low oxygenated areas of your body...exercising oxygenates our bodies & the IFR assist in circulating oxygen through our bodies.

I receive relief every time I use the IFR...I have a little less toxins in me...the skin is our largest organ & it's a great way to try to keep up ridding ourselves of toxins in a toxic environment...

The company I brought from is out of Colorado...except I brought a use one and saved so much...found the sauna on craigslist and the warranty came with the sale...just called the company...everything is guaranteed for life almost...

I'm going to be trying it today - I found a place in Silverlake, CA that has one with low/no EMFs. I'm going to start slow - 15 mins. I know this is an older topic, but in case anyone is searching, I'll post my results.

I have a celebration sauna I got a larger one. But it was not necessary. The people at celebration are Lyme friendly with good customer service.

They have a blog on their site that's interesting. May not beat Costco prices, but I did get mine on sale.

Rawls recommends 30 minutes a day. I don't do it quite that often. But when I use it I heat up the muscles first in a warm shower or detox bath (advice from Celebration) it gets the toxins moving out quicker.

Ok. Spent 15 mins with 140 degrees - the unit itself was unlabled, no idea who made it. The heat was not even - my feet were cold and my head was hot. Didn't work up a good sweat in 15 mins, but the heat felt REALLY good. After, in the shower, I felt the most normal I've felt in years. After the shower (not too hot), I felt tired, a little spacey (not bad) and ready for a nap. It's just a start. I plan on doing it once a week to get going. I really don't want to overdo anything right now. I'm also off my lyme killing herbs for a few days due to a bad herx with high blood pressure - which has currently normalized.

Conclusion: Definitely work trying. Hoping to work up to half an hour over time.

Update: Knocked out for a hard 20 minute nap. After, I feel pretty good. I just climbed the stairs at a relatively normal pace like a normal person. Trying not to go overboard here and taking it easy. I feel good. I don't want to feel bad again and it's making me sad that once I start the lyme killing herbs again I'll herx and feel like poo sad Stupid Lyme.

I think JNH Lifestyles NE2HB1 ENSI Collection is the on the market . We did a lot of research before purchasing our first far infrared sauna. We have used them elsewhere and were ready to finally put one in our home for daily use! Pricewise, JNH really cannot be beat for the quality of product you receive. It's tough to decide if you are going to "get what you pay for" when you see other companies offering apparently the same thing for a few thousand dollars more! I have a therasage i fou d it on ebay it was not cheap but very worth the investment did it this morning and it calmed my mind and nerves down and muscle pain its a portable sauna.

I tried infrared saunas because of few surgeries on my legs. Having metal plates in my legs and feet causes pain, and I did not want to take painkillers, and someone adviced to try one of those portable saunas. Having experienced numerous saunas in several spas and gyms, I noticed that it works at relievng pain, so I purchased one a few years ago and since then I use it on the unregular basis. Cause I love real saunas more, anyway..

i experience relief with any kind of sauna or any kind of device that heats me and makes me sweat.

it is probably a good thing to do sauna 3 times a week, would help the immune system too.

I have a "wood" one from costco. I love it when I use it but sitting on a wood seat with the wood walls is awful for my pain. My neck in particular. I have to use so many towels for padding/support for the neck, back, seat, even head(whatever touches wood).

I bought those wood lower back supports and they help some but I still need a bunch of towels.

Once I have everything set I dont move because it will all come falling down.

I see now they have ones you can use a folding chair in.
