help! any thoughts on proposed new protocol (with bicilin or omicef?)

Hi everyone,
I am a little confused and frustrated. Would appreciate any thoughts on what doc. is proposing. I respect him and know that he is the expert, but there is a lot of wisdom here too!

Have lyme, bartonella, mycoplasma and maybe babesia.

The background is that after 10 months on a variety of strong orals, I had reached about 85%. (Most recent succesful combo as of April was amox, septra, malarone, plaquenil, zithromax and nystatin.) Thought I was on glide path to healing!!

Since I had been on amox for 10 months and was doing so well, doc. wanted to switch things up and begin transition to herbals: so he dropped amox and septra -- and added suprax and A-bart (keeping zithro, plaquenil, malarone and nystatin).

Long story short: all heck broke loose when I started Suprax and A-bart! Bad diarrhea and what I think was a major herx!! (granted, I got up to 3 drops of A-bart 2xday in 5 days AND THAT WAS A BAD IDEA . . . but it did not hit me until about Day 6. I thought I was doing fine . . .)

So doc. pulled me off the Suprax and A-Bart. He thinks we may have "flushed something out"? I think I just added too much too soon for my 102 lb body which has been on heavy orals for 11 months now . . .

Now, rather than resuming - a t a lower does - Suprax and A-bart (and others) or even returning to Amox and Septra (and others) he is proposing bicillin shots (1.2 million units into the derriere twice a week?) or omnicef??? (also saying I should hold off A-bart, add something called A-L and keep zithro, plaquenil, malarone and nystatin)

At this point I am overwhelmed and think that I am now losing ground, even though I thought I really was getting to whatever the lyme finish line is!

I am not the expert, but could it just be that my body needs to recover from an overload? Or, am I just in denial and still really really sick?

Anyone done bicillin? Omnicef?

Had a 10 day herx with A-Bart?

I wonder if something is happening with the addition of A-Bart? I need to figure this one out too.

Our daughter was pulsed for 6 months on plaquinel, malarone, azithromycin, tindamax and minocycline (F, S, S) with 4 days off each week, but was on continuous A-Bart, A-L (for lyme) - 30 drops BID for each (it had taken me 1 year to get to that dosage). With the pulse we would see a herx reaction for the first two days, but then she would drop back to a good baseline for the rest of the week. When we decided to wean off abx, we did it slowly (over 5 weeks), but kept the A-Bart, A-L constant. She did well and was at a good baseline.

Then I ran out of A-Bart for two weeks - I had trouble getting it from our LLMD's assistant, I was not impressed. "In the mail, returned for postage, in the mail, oops ran out, etc." I finally drove down and got it myself. All this time symptoms kept improving. Shin pain resolved further, disappeared in fact. When I restarted A-Bart at 10 drops BID (1/3 of what she had been on for 6 months) all heck broke loose. Motor ticcing, shin pain, fatigue came back within a day. I discontinued A-Bart. She is now back to being pain-free and doesn't seem to be losing ground. I am interested in what our LLMD has to say. Perhaps we will start pulsing A-Bart like we were pulsing the Abx.

Sorry, I'm not of much help. Just to let you know you are not alone with your excessive response to A-Bart.

It is helpful to hear of anyone's experiences with the stuff - esp. the A-Bart. I know there have been many discussions on it and I have checked them out . . .

The BWFs are a major mystery to me. The doctor still wants to hold off the A-Bart for now. He thinks we have "unmasked" some other pestilences by using it even in a small amount.

Anyway, I really hope that your daughter continues pain free. You are obviously a great and dedicated mom!
