Help understanding How IV antibiotics work

Hello- I am new so excuse my ignorance but I can't seem to find these answers anywhere. I have tested positive for Lymes, chronic old infection, years of mis diagnosis yada yada yada. So now my doc wants me to go to see Dr J in DC. Then he will help me implement the treatment plan here at home. I want to know what exactly an IV treatment of antibiotics entail? Do I do it at home every day? Do you have a port or no? Daily care and issues I may face?Do I go somewhere? Is it daily? I have young kids and am trying to get an understanding of how this will work before I spend a lot of money to go to DC to make sure I can even handle the treatment once home, childcare etc. Also, are the drugs legal? I keep reading about the medical boards running Dr J out of Charlotte for these drugs. If I am prescribed these drugs, can I get them at home (Charlotte)?

Hi there and welcome. There are a few of us on IV's. I live in the DC area but I don't get treated by Dr. J. All I can say is do your research. Also all of my IV's are adminstered by my doctor. I would consider it dangerous to do IV's on your own. Did I understand right that they would show you how to do it at home?

There are numerous abx and natural treatments you can get through IV's. It all depends on your body and what it can and can't take. I have a small one too and I tried Rocephin IV and it tore me down. But for others it worked out great. Everyone is different. But I had to find a treatment plan to keep me on my feet and get well since I'm a single mom. It's taking a long while but I'm faithful it will work.

I get two IV's a week, one takes about an hour or less and the other (Vitamin IV Infusion) takes 1.5-2 hours. I'm also on LDN (low dose naltrexone) and a ton of supplements.

I'm sure others will chime in...if you live in the Charlotte area then maybe someone here on the forum can refer you to a great doctor down there (save you travel expenses and stress).
