I'm on Amoxicillan and Clarithromycin. I'm adding Bactrim probably next week.

I have been taking half the amount of Amoxicillan and Clarithromycin that was first prescribed because I herxed so much. My doctor says it's time to go to the full amount, which I'm going to do this week.

I'm then going to add Biaxin for Bartonella, too.

It sure seems like a lot of milligrams! One Amoxicillan, alone, is like 875 mgs.

Anyone else taking high dosages? I knew I'd be ready to go up on the Amoxicillan and the Clarithromycin around now, but then adding Bactrim?

I'm afraid I'll herx into infinity.

Then again, maybe my body has adjusted enough in 6 weeks to be able to push forward now.

Binduspire, I too am on Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin for LD. My doctor prescribed 500mg of each every twelve hours. Because I am medicine sensitive, I started with 500mg a day of each (half of the prescribed dosage). I took that for two weeks to get my body used to it. I did not herx but saw minimal improvement. Two weeks into the treatment, I went to the dosage that my doctor prescribed and that is when I started to see my symptoms get better. Next time I go see my LLMD I am going to ask to be put on Bactrim as well. I have taken it before for food poisoning and know that I do well with it.

As for dosage, most doctors will tell you that it is OK for you to cut the dosage so you don't herx as bad. You want to kill the bugs but not at the expense of killing yourself in the process. I believe that a lower dose will kill of some bacteria and be enough so that when you up the dosage, you don't overwhelm the body. Some people are of the opinion that a lower dosage will just make the bacteria become immune to it. I asked my doctor that and he said that it could happen long term but not within a few weeks so he said it is safe to start with a lower dosage.

By the way, twice during the two months that I have been on it I have had to stop the antibiotics. Within two days of stopping them, my LD symptoms come back full force. This tells me that even though the antibiotics have made me feel better by about 40%, the bacteria is still alive and well within me. My next plan is to add herbs and supplements to help kill it.

The generic name for Biaxin is Clarithromycin. They are the same. Don't worry about 875mg of Amoxicillin, it's relatively benign.

I am going to be starting Bactrim for the Bartonella.

Healing 98- how far into treatment are you?

Binduspire, I have been on antibiotics for two months. My system is feeling the effects of being on antibiotics because I have become allergic to many things and have caught a yeast infection, both of which I never had problems with until I started to take antibiotics.
