NC_lyme, the same thing happened to me. I am on 1000mg of Amoxicillin and three weeks into the treatment I stopped because I developed an allergic reaction and thought that it was to the Amoxicillin. Three days after stopping the antibiotics, I begun to feel sick again and lost the weeks of improvement that I had gained. I later found out that the allergy was not to Amoxicillin so I went on it again and the symptoms begun to improve once again.
I am not sure how long I will need to be on Amoxicillin but I do know that it affects the live spirochetes and not the other forms of Lyme or any of the co-infections. This is probably the reason why it came back once I stopped taking the Amoxicillin.
I take Clarithromycin in addition to the Amocicillin to tackle the other forms of Lyme but I don't think it is working for me. When I stopped taking the Amoxicillin, I continued to take the Clarithromycin and the Lyme came back so that is the reason that I don't think it is working for me.
As for the wine; red wine contains resveratrol which is a great antibiotic, wine is made from grapes and one of the best things to help with Lyme is grape seed extract so you would think that it would be good for you, right? However, the alcohol in the wine is a huge no-no for Lyme. It taxes the liver at a time that it is already overwhelmed processing the dead bacteria and this is the reason why people who are infected feel drunk with a small amount of alcohol. The body cannot process the alcohol so you feel sick and the hangover is the worst you have ever experienced.
